Yeah, we all know the drill: attend an automotive event and watch a guy ruin his tires in a quest to win a prize. In this case, the moment was this past weekend, the location was Texas World Speedway, the event was TX2K14, the purse was $1000, and the tool involved was a late-model Pontiac GTO with Hennessey power.
TX2K14 is an annual gathering of horsepower fans in near Houston that is now 15 years strong. It is divided into four events:
In the background of the video you can hear the announcer say, “This looks like a race car at a burnout contest–who does that?” but really we have to wonder why the glory is worth it? It’s been done before, often with negative results. John Force isn’t famous for doing burnouts but for winning races, right? Check out the video courtesy of High Tech Corvette and judge for yourself.

I don’t know about “ruined”, more like; “nice burnout, but not enough smoke so no cigar”
Side-note: what the heck is the announcer talking about? He knows jack sh#t about cars, or maybe he’s being facetious…
Looked awesome to me. You can tell there is a good breeze blowing the smoke away or the whole car would of been taken over with smoke. Taking it so far as to blowing the tire is pretty standard in this kind of competition. I would like to ask Diego to change the title of this article to GTO performs beautiful burnout in TX2K14 competition.
total stupidity, GTO moron
thats just stupid, why use slicks for a burnout contest ????
Lots of jealous people, who wish they could do that.
