David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan build some of the rattiest, coolest hot rods you’ve ever seen on their monthly web show, Roadkill. The two Hot Rod staffers are mild geniuses when it comes wrenching on things in their garage, as evidenced in the latest episode of the show.
The pair had a rusty old Datsun 240Z lying around from a previous episode in which Finnegan swapped a 4.3 liter Chevrolet V6 motor into it from a Chevrolet S10. They decide to inject the Japanese sports car with a little bit of extra muscle by installing a massive turbocharger on it sourced from a Ford Power Stroke diesel engine. They then head down to the Goodguys Spring Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona to see how the car fares against some late-model muscle on the autocross course. Watch it all unfold in the video below.
After all these years, I haven’t seen one Japanese car that looked anywhere near as beautiful as the 240Z.
Not the one in the video though; I don’t like patina or slats.
