Last month Rob Dyrdek, star of MTV’s Fantasy Factory, put his name in the Guinness Book of World Records for performing the furthest reverse ramp jump in a car. The stunt looked easy enough, all Dyrdek needed was two six-foot ramps, a Chevrolet Sonic and a little speed to successfully complete the jump. But there was a bit more to it than that.
Seeing as the Sonic is a front-wheel drive car with the engine in the front, the car had to be modified for perfect 50/50 weight distribution for the stunt to work. The stunt designers put a counter weight in the rear of the car so it would remain as level as possible while flying through the air and installed aftermarket suspension for the hard impact upon landing. The team also did math calculations to achieve the correct angle of the launch ramp.
Check out the video below to see how the Sonic was modified for the jump. The stunt will also air tonight on the series finale of Fantasy Factory at 10:30 p.m. ET on MTV.
