We have seen several different sets of pre-production photos of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze, but these latest shots from Indian Autos Blog reveal the most production-ready 2016 Cruze yet. Previous photos showed the second-generation compact sedan with a conventional Chevrolet two-tier grille, but now it appears to be sporting a grille closer in design to that of the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu.
The Malibu similarities continue past the front end. The rear haunches are more defined than the current Cruze’s, the taillights appear to have two-separate sections and it has adopted a third, trunk-mounted brake light.
The launch of the second Cruze was originally scheduled for 2014, but has since been postponed until the second half of 2015. We’re sure the looks are still subject to change, but it seems the new Cruze is starting to look more like a downsized Malibu every time we see it.

Good choice. No better car to model it after than aruably the best looking mid sizer in the market!
I love it! It does sort of remind me of a baby Malibu. I wonder what engines General Motors is going to put in there. I think that the Cruze/Verano are too big for a 1.0L Turbo I3. A 1.2L Turbo I3 (VVT, SIDI, and iVVL) that has 140HP and 155FT-LBS would be more adequate. A 1.0L Turbo I3 (VVT, SIDI, and iVVL) that has 120HP and 135FT-LBS would fit better with a Spark and/or Sonic. Here’s what I think the whole engine lineup should be:
-1.2L Turbo I3 (Hybrid Optional/VVT, SIDI, and iVVL) that has 140HP and 155FT-LBS
-1.4L Turbo I4 (VVT, SIDI, and iVVL) that has 175HP and 190FT-LBS
-1.8L Turbo I4 (VVT, SIDI, and iVVL) that has 240HP and 285FT-LBS
-2.0L TDI I4 that has 165HP and 280FT-LBS
I remember people saying the cruze would never sale and be a flop! I’m sure there will be people say the same about this version and they will be wrong again!
I like that GM has 5 family cars to choose from from tiny to large!
I still want my baby impala. GM designers decided to give it the interior but not the front grill, screw that, I’d rather wait for the volt then.
Could not agree more that the Impala grill is the direction they should go. I really hate the bowtie on the vertical bar in the middle of the grill, like the Malibu, Spark and Cruz. I prefer the bowtie floated on a black grill like the Impala and Equinox.
What’s wrong with the bowtie on the center part of the grill
Both designs look great!
Not really, the split grill resembles older Chevy models that were unattractive and had one goal which that was to compete against Toyota and Honda. The new impala grill on the other hand says that Chevy is going in a new direction, one that started with the introduction of the current camaro (a very desirable car) and is trying to reach a new generation of buyers that isn’t interested in Toyotas or Hondas. When someone my age buys a camaro it says “hey I’m not boring.” That’s what’s wrong with the old grill
If it’s so bad then why does it sell so well!
I said that the old grill looked unattractive, I didn’t say the cruze is a horribly built car that doesn’t get good mpg.
So GM should take your advice and change it because you said so!
I know plenty of people who like both grills of both cars !
What makes you the expert
Actually, I’m not an expert I just judge cars based on reviews, and awards, so far the impala has better reviews even from critics who have historically been biased to imports, than the Malibu. So, if one of chevy’s products are doing very well, then I’m pretty sure the rest of the lineup should only follow, hence the reason why the impala followed the camaro in terms of exterior styling.
And not for Europe any more 🙁
If the next gen Cruze is worthy and desirable successor to the current Cruze, it should be offered in Europe as an Opel and Vauxhall.
It would not be the same without the Bowtie 🙁
