2014 Corvette Stingray Makes Performance Car Of The Year Shortlist

The finalists for the World Car of the Year Awards have been announced in a press conference at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The 2014 Cadillac CTS, ELR and Escalade as well as the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray were nominated to receive a World Car of the Year award in their respective segments, but only one offering from the General made the final cut.

The Escalade and ELR were both runners up for the World Luxury Car of the Year, but were omitted from the list when it was dwindled down to the final three competitors. The remaining cars, the Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Land Rover Range Rover Sport, will duke it out for the title of most luxurious.

Cadillac’s new CTS faced stiff competition competing in the overall World Car of the Year award segment. It was cut from the running, leaving judges to choose from the remaining three competitors, the Audi A3, BMW 4-Series and Mazda 3, for the best car in the world.

GM might not walk away from the World Car of the Year awards empty handed, though. The Corvette Stingray is among the final three competitors for the World Performance Car of the Year, however its up against two companies who happen to know a thing or two about performance: Porsche and Ferrari. The Corvette Stingray will win yet another award if the panel of judges prefers it to the Porsche 911 GT3 and Ferrari 458 Speciale.

We can hardly believe the most awarded car of 2013, the seventh-generation Corvette, may be poised to win yet another award. Will it be able to continue its winning streak? Well find out when the winners of the World Car of the Year awards are announced at the New York International Auto Show in April.
