The Tigers season opener is just around the corner, and just like the players, General Motors is preparing for the big day. The automaker hoisted two new vehicles, a Blue Topaz Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup and a Crystal Red Metallic Equinox small SUV, to their respective parking spaces on top of the stadium’s fountain Thursday.
Chevrolet has sponsored the stadium’s fountain for the last five seasons. The fountain sprays water and plays a recording of a tiger growling every time the Tigers score a home run. The brand chooses the core vehicles from its lineup each year to display on the fountain, with the Camaro, Malibu and Equinox all making appearances in recent years.
“Chevrolet is the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball and what better symbol can there be than having our vehicles in such a prominent place in our hometown stadium?” inquired Paul Edwards, vice president of Chevrolet marketing.
To reach their perches on top of the fountain, Chevrolet used a crane to gingerly lift the vehicles into place, a process which took three hours. In previous years, Chevrolet displayed non-saleable, pre-production vehicles on top of the fountain, but this year’s Silverado and Equinox are both production vehicles and will be sold at a dealer auction once their duties on top of the fountain are complete.
“Last year, we were able to showcase our vehicles to more than 3 million Tigers’ fans at Comerica Park and even more watching from home,” Edwards said. “Maybe these great family vehicles can inspire a few more home runs to centerfield this year.”

Why would they replace the Impala with the Equinox when they are to redesign the Equinox in the coming years. The Impala is a beautiful family sedan gorgeous car hands down, and I believe it should be displayed anywhere the General can, the Impala needs to boost sales, they should be selling 100% more then they are currently
Odds are because it is only for this season and late in a product life It helps to market the older car till the new one is here. Also the Nox is heavily outselling the Impala as it is a much hotter segment than the Impala is now.
The Impala is new and will do just fine to sell what it needs with the marketing it will see. The styling alone gets a lot of attention.
The Nox is an important segment where they are selling around 200,000 units and they need to keep it up and hope to only expand this with the new model.
In years past the Impala and Caprice were the go to cars for volume and today it is the Cruze and the Nox. Times have changed.
