The Smoking Tire Reviews The 2014 Chevrolet SS: Video

Unless you are a dedicated car enthusiast, if you spot a Chevrolet SS going down the road there is a good chance you won’t give it a second glance. Even though it’s packing a 415 horsepower LS3 V8 under its hood, to the majority of the public, the SS doesn’t appear to be too much different than any other mid-sized four-door Chevy.

The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah recently drove the Chevrolet SS for a week and according to him, he was “invisible”. So even though he was in a V8-powered, tire-shredding muscle car, he got about as much attention as if he was in any old rental car. This, Farah says, is one of the main problems regarding the Chevrolet SS. It doesn’t have the bad-ass looks to go along with its crazy Australian attitude.

So we know Farah wasn’t big on the cars looks, but what did he think about the rest of the car? After all, it’s hard to fault the SS. It has a powerful V8 engine, big Brembo brakes and a comfortable, spacious interior. To find out, check out his video review of the car below.

  2. I want one of these so badly. And that Mystic Green is an awesome color!

  3. I want one too! But it needs an LT1 and an 8L90 first. .

    1. I agree that having the LT1 and the 8-speed would be great. Unfortunately, the LT1 is probably going to be Corevette-only for a while. Plus, we need this car to sell now otherwise it may not be around long enough to get the LT1. *sigh*

      1. Well, then a 5.3L V8 (VVT, SIDI, AFM and iVVL) with 365HP and 390FT-LBS or a 3.6L T/T V6 (VVT, SIDI and iVVL) with 470HP and 485FT-LBS.

Hopefully it does sell well, but that gas guzzler tax isn’t really saying something good to potential buyers.

  4. The two guy doing the driving of the new Chevrolet SS 2014 say that it needs to look more like the dodge SRT maybe they shouldn’t be testing the SS. Keep up the good work Chevy, don’t listen to those two guys,
your on the right track, keep it looking like Chevrolet . not like some other make. The SS badge is very important.

    1. These guys just don’t get it. The SS is supposed to be a sleeper. That’s the heritage of the SS moniker…a hi-po version of an everyday car.

  5. The SS is not the same as the G-8 huge changes & upgrades have been made! I like the sleeper concept, I don’t appreciate every cop in town checking me out!! Black wheels & yellow brake calipers (CTS-V ish)
If you want to be noticed do the HSV thing.

  6. This is an outstanding car! The knock they have on it is exactly why I love mine so much, its a sleeper. At least once a day, someone does a double take when I speed away from a light. Chevy/Holden did a great job on this car, and I prefer the LS3 anyway.

  7. I don’t want to stick out with the gangster look, i would love to have this car just the way it is.

  8. I concur. While I’m not a fan of the sleeper design either I do believe this car’s performance and value more than justifies its existence. GM/Holden engineered this car right in all the places that matters most. Now let’s hope we get a more advanced model in a few years…….This car is the beginning of a revolution for Chevrolet performance.

  9. Read yesterday that 2015 SS will have manual available for a few grand more. Guess Chevy read my comments from months ago! LOL

  10. The exhaust note is the same as Steve Mcqueen’s Mustang in “Bullitt”! Bring out the wagon version and call it; Nomad.

  11. The Commodore has never been aggressive in styling because it has always been a family car/everyday car at heart. It has performance trims for enthusiasts and fans, luxury trims for those who don’t want to pay for overpriced germans and comfort trims for fleet sales. HSV was where the performance looks become available. Hopefully GM strikes a deal with Walkinshaw and the HSV Clubsport R8 SV (LS3, 456hp) can go to America too as an SS 1LE package or something. GTS (LSA) hopefully as well. Maybe the HSV styling will satisfy the need for aggressive styling. The Clubsport and GTS are sold in the UK as the Vuaxhall VXR8.
