Opel has released a teaser image previewing the new Vivaro commercial van. Opel says the new Vivaro will carry a new design, new technologies and a new engine lineup when it is officially introduced in the summer of this year. The current Vivaro has remained relatively unchanged since it was first introduced in 2001 and thus is long overdue for a makeover.
With the new Vivaro, Opel promises more economical, higher performance engines as well as modern technologies and additional interior amenities. The Vivaro will make advancements visually, too, with a more modern look that shares design cues with the rest of the Opel lineup.
Opel says more information on the next-gen Vivaro as well as official photos will be available soon.

Hmm could this also be the replacement for the Nissan based Chevy van that is not ready yet?
Interesting thought considering the current Vivaro shares its platform with the Nissan Primastar and Renault Trafic.
That’s like teasing a box, isn’t it? The only worthwhile upgrades will be on the inside and under the hood. I’m sure the long-awaited upgrades will be very useful. Personally, I hope this is not the rumoured Chevy van. It’s utilitarian, I’m sure, but is it ever ugly!
Which it leads me to this question, should Cadillac get a larger version of this to go up against the MB v-class?
The Chevy City Express is smaller (and is based on the Nissan NV200).
Vic 1212, the Vivaro is bigger than Nissans NV200 & Nissan won’t get a version of this new van to fit above NV200. I’m guessing by the photo there will be a 9 seater MPV version to compete with Mercedes V class & VW Caravelle.
I think V8Jon is wrong assuming that Nissan would no longer get their version of the new Trafic/Vivaro. Nissan’s version, the Primastar, of the current Vivaro/Trafic is not assembled in GM’s Luton factory, but in Nissan’s own factory in Barcelona, Spain. BTW, I recently saw such a Nissan badged van, a rare sight here where I live.
A recent article on the German web site “Motor Talk” wrote that the next generation Renault Trafic would also not be assembled in Luton, but in Renault’s Sandouville plant.
What I would really like to know, is who is doing the engineering for those vehicles?
Year Vivaro Trafic
2010 37,854 34,702
2011 53,078 15,001
2012 36,982 16,483
For completeness, here are production figures for the larger Opel/Vauxhall van, Movano, produced in Renault’s SOVAB factory in Batilly, near Metz in Lorraine (Eastern France):
Year Movano
2010 10,493
2011 14,645
2012 12,947
and the 2012 production of the current Opel/Vauxhall Combo (the Opel/Vauxhall version of FIAT Dobló), produced by Tofaş in Bursa, Turkey:
Year Combo
2012 19,105
Observer7, have you considered perhaps in a GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado way they could be similar but totally different.
it looks pretty nice coming on. I hope you can carry passengers in a lot of luxury and comfort and a lot of tweaks. travel time for the transport option could become a competitor to VW Multivan.
hope for the best
@VJon:
I am at odds to grasp what you want to tell my be mentioning those USanian pickups (they are pickups, right?). We are talking here about real vans.
Observer7, I mean mechanically similar but also individual.
@V8 Jon, currently the three (or four, if you count Vauxhall separately) are just badge engineered; just the grill looks somewhat different. When I saw this Nissan Primastar, my first impression was that the Opel badge with its horizontal lightning looked somewhat peculiar, and only on second look I saw that it was the Nissan logo.
Seen the relatively small number of those cars being produced, building them with different sheet metal is economically very questionable.
The new generation in the making will not be too different in this regard, methinks.
BTW, as to differenciations with badge engineering you might better have pointed to the triplet of VW Up and its Skoda and Seat siblings, or the triplet of Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1.
Observer7, Nissan badged the Renault Kangoo a few years ago, now the NV200 has replaced it. Renault still do the Kangoo & Mercedes have the Kangoo based Citizen.
