In years prior, if a European automotive magazine pitted a Corvette against some of the best sportscars Europe had to offer, they would have dismissed the ‘Vette as cheap, badly made and ultimately not worthy of going up against cars like the 911. While that wasn’t necessarily true anyways, the arrival of the 2014 Corvette Stingray appears to have broken the negative connotations attached to the Corvette nameplate overseas.
British magazine Autocar recently pitted the 2014 Corvette Stingray against a Porsche 911 Carrera, Audi R8 V8 and Jaguar F-Type V8….and they liked it. They didn’t just like it, they loved it, describing it as an “absolute peach of a car to drive at the limit.”
The Stingray was compared to the 911 to test its mid-range acceleration, the R8 for sharpness and steering feel and the F-Type was brought along to compare the two cars exhaust notes. We already know the American automotive media loves the latest Corvette, but what do the Brits think about it? Check out the comparison below to find out.

Can’t wait to see the C7 on BBC’s Top Gear.
Great video!! Love to see all that sideways action!!! Its actually pretty cool that they did a sound comparison too.
Makes me wanna sing the Star Spangled Banner.
Not surprised at all by this vid – LOVED all of the drifting. I find it interesting that the Carrera S is THE cars to pit the Stingray against, yet it has AWD and cost twice as much. hmmmm…AWD yet every comparison the Vette is faster through the curves…[again] hmmmm.
I am surprised the Vette appeared to be so far off the mark in the braking comparison. It’s an excellent stopper by the numbers, and the vid shows that this was clearly a difference in when each driver applied the brakes. in fact none of these test were actually “measured” test by any standard other than the eyes…and ears.
Either way, as always the Vette – a car designed to simply drive well and go fast – is so damn good that it can only be compared to cars for the poser elite.
Now if we can just get the non-enthusiast to quite whining about how un luxurious, or supposedly unrefined the Vette is. It’s not supposed to be any of those things! GM never forgot what the Vette was all about; everything you need to go fast and have fun and NONE of the pretentiousness.
Judging those who choose to drive Porsches or other premium vehicles as poser elites is such a tiring generalization. Certainly stereotypes do exist but try if you can, to see the world through others eyes and it will become a far more interesting place. Conversely, not all corvette owners are fat old bald guys., for example. I have owned and tracked a corvette, a porsche cayman s, a porsche 911s, a subaru brz and a miata. My favorite has been the miata and much to your surprise I’m guessing, I am not gay 🙂
