  1. The biggest problem with the old canyon was the price. The price was to close to the full sized truck so buyers chose the 1500. I heard that many times on the showroom floor. “Wow for not much more I can get 1/2 ton”

Hopefully the people in Detroit wake up realize that cost is a major concern to buyers in this segment.

  2. Problem is that the cost of both trucks is probably pretty close.

They both use virtually the same exact parts except many of them are downsized for the midsize canyon. That does save some money but not as much as you may think.

Due to the huge volume of the full size truck it gets maximum discounts on parts. Canyon is relatively low volume and individual parts, though virtually identical except for individualism (think IP gauges/vents/etc.), will be more expensive.

Now some components are much cheaper like the powertrain. A 4 clyinder is a bit cheaper than a V6 and than a V8. However the seats, one of the most expensive commodities, are about the same price.

There will be material savings though in parts like the frame and fenders but, due to volume again, the cost may not be that far apart.

And it will take virtually the same labor to build both trucks at the plant.
