The New Cadillac Emblem: Hot Or Not?

Cadillac announced today that it would begin putting the all-new Cadillac crest on its vehicles, beginning with the recently unveiled 2015 ATS Coupe. The Cadillac emblem has changed numerous times over the brands 111-year history, with the last transformation happening in 1999.

The new crest, which first appeared on the Cadillac Elmiraj concept, adopts a more modern, streamlined design. If you ask Cadillac designers, they will describe the logo as low, wide and stretched, similar to the vehicles it represents. If we must say, it looks perfect on the Elmiraj. Though on the ATS Coupe, it could be described as over-proportioned. So you might love the new crest, or hate it, but no matter how you feel, it’s here to stay. So what do you think, Hot or Not?

    1. Cadillac is not about the past anymore. They exercised that attitude for 40 years, made garbage cars, and let the Germans and the Japanese take a commanding share of the luxury market.

Neither the Germans or the Japanese relied on using metaphorical hand-job memories of the past to make the people buy their cars. They sold the future of luxury cars through technology and engineering superiority. It worked, and people bought from them in droves; they still do to this day.

If you want to live in the past, hit up a used car lot and find a Town Car.

  8. Here is one of the greatest Cadillac’s of all time. Where’s the Wreath?

    http://www.sportscardigest.com/glenmoor-gathering-2011-information/

The car in the photo is considered to be one of he greatest Cadillac’s of all time and one of the most advanced car of its time Think of it as the Elmirage of the day. It is one of the most valuable Cadillac’s ever build and is very prized today by collectors. Cadillac’s golden era cars were all wreathless.

To be honest most cars of the greatest styling era were lacking in ornamentation as they let the styling talk not some glaring large emblem.

  9. I think the wreath is actually one of the best things that has happened to Cadillac, I’ve never had to defend it. The shield and wreath has been the most balanced emblem in the past few decades. As for the V, it sometimes looked oversized and a bit embarrassing on some of the older cars. Now to give our guys credit you have to admit the new shield is not bad it actually looks good. But I think it doesn’t look finished and making it bigger or wider doesn’t fix the problem. There’s something missing, it’s the wreath. I think downsizing the new shield a bit and using its outline to design a wreath would be the way to go. I think it would electrify our emblem and our brand and I believe electric cars are our future and Cadillac has always led the way.

  11. Looks like I may be in the minority here , but I like the new crest . However I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the old one either . Atleast they didn’t bring back the ducks that useto destroy the crest ! I think it is something that will grow on people once they actually see it in person and not just in pics . JMO

  12. Well too late to debate this as they have already made the change and this argument is pretty much meaning less at this point so if you like it congrats and if you hate it buy an old emblem and tape it on.

  13. I think it looks great! Very modern but still incorporates Cadillac’s history. To settle the arguments, maybe Cadillac can have the wreath on the rim center caps and as the seat embroidery. . .

  15. We’re doing soo good, and I hate to bad mouth my own brand. But that emblem without something at least partially surrounding it makes me want to say…”HERE I COME TO SAVE THE DAY!” And please don’t get me wrong I know it’s hard to make changes. To be honest it’s the same shield, it’s just shaped a little different. So why not give it’s cradle the same treatment. I know the word wreath probably bothers our engineers. Let’s just call whatever surrounds it or partially surrounds it something else. just something to think about.

  16. love the wreath on my new Cadillac….it is elegant and classy…..history and class says it all. I don’t see BMW or Mercedes changing their emblems. The new one is nice enough but does not do it for me

  18. Cadillac has made a Very Big Mistake removing the Beautiful Wreath from the combination”Wreath-Crest” logo!! Why remove the Classic, Elegant, Beautiful and Distinctive Wreath which in combination with the Crest Adds a Fine Jewell like appearance and It Looks “Much Better” than having the “Crest By Itself” !! The “Wreath-Crest” combination has been the Cadillac Logo now for 50 years now with some variations over the years ! I think the Cadillac “Wreath-Crest” combination is by far the Best Looking Logo of any luxury car in the world!! I and I am sure thousands of other Cadillac Owners, Customers and Fans “Do Not Ever see the Wreath as Outdated or Obsolete!!

If Cadillac based their decision to remove the Wreath on a survey of young people only, This was a Big Mistake!! They should also survey all existing owners and customers that are use to and Love the “Wreath-Crest” combination!! You should never base a decision on a group of young possible Cadillac buyers without also surveying the existing established and satisfied Cadillac owners which have made Cadillac the successful luxury brand that it is today!! I really believe this change will have a negative affect on sales!! You have removed the Elegance, Jewell Appearance and Beauty form the Cadillac Logo!! With the Wreath gone the logo looks naked and unfinished and It Is Not as Noticeable as it is with the “Wreath-Crest” combination!!! BIG, BIG MISTAKE!!!!

    1. A refreshing change is necessary. The wreath and the shield are entirely too big. I have dinner plates the size of the emblem. I don’t drive my car for it to be an advertisement for the brand or use it as some sort of American status symbol. I love the change. If you want bling, go buy a big necklace and wear it around your neck.

  19. The only mistake cadillac could make is letting you speak for the company!

A negative effect on sales! That old emblem sure didn’t keep people from going to other manufacturers 10 plus years ago!

Sometimes I wonder why morons are allowed on the Internet!

  20. Personally… I think they should have dropped the crest, and just had kept the wreath as the emblem for Cadillac.

The olive branch has always stood for perfection, competition, and especially… Victory.

Whatever emblem is decided… It should be kept simple, as “Classical”, is defined as “simple beauty.”

  22. The new “crest” will not stand the test of time. It just isn’t elegant work, or even close to it.

That doesn’t mean that Cadillac has to go back to a look of decades ago, but simple this isn’t it. In 2 or 3 or 4 years, there will be a new look again. Lets hope that one is good, and sticks.

  23. Nice to stick you neck out there with that bold prediction! The fact is your dead wrong!

Cadillac has made a great emblem, it will have zero effect on sells or promotion and marketing of the cars and trucks!

Nobody is going to test drive a cadillac fall in love with it and say I can’t buy it cuz that emblem on the grill! If they did then they didn’t like the vehicle in the first place!

  25. THIS IS A VERY BIG MISTAKE…. This will hurt Cadillac tremendously. Cadillac has made to many changes within the last two decades to their logo (2002) and vehicle lineup. All these changes are alienating the true Cadillac owner’s. The new style logo is easily confused with a Chevy emblem. This obviously is some young knucklehead’s idea who just got their first Cadillac ever one year ago. Every true luxury automobile’s emblem is encased within a circle, with the exception of jag, tesla and ultra brands like Rolls Royce and Bentley.

I have been a Cadillac owner and loyalest for 20 years now and I’m still in my 30’s. I am also a former mechanical engineer for general motor’s corporation (Cadillac division). This new emblem disgust me! If this is what their idea of refreshing the brand is, I most likely will not be purchasing any future Cadillac cars ever again .

Stick with cars that you will continue to make and stop discontinuing vehicle’s (STS, XLR, EXT, DTS, CTS 2dr). Who want’s to pay over 50 thousand dollars for a car that you know will soon be discontinued and have no future relevance or value. Stop changing the brand image. Are you guy’s idiot’s or top executive’s in New York ? Your turning Cadillac into TRASH !

  26. I hate the new Cadillac emblem. What happened to the style grace and integrity of the Cadillac symbol? The symbol of the new moderate Cadillac is a disgrace and I will not buy another one. I have had seven Cadillacs now I’m thinking of looking at a Mercedes what the symbol is still the same.

  27. I am not a fan of the wreath removal, the new design looks plain and cheap. The wreath added elegance and class, now it looks like they threw the logo in Microsoft paint, removed the wreath, scrunched the logo, and ta-da a 5-year old designed the new logo in minutes. Its kind of like if Audi were to remove a ring from their logo…

  28. I can’t believe that they removed the wreath! I’ve owned Cadillacs in the late 70’s, and I used to love looking through my front windsheild and seeing the wreath erect on top of the hood. To me it was just as good as a Rolls Royce. I was considering buying a Cadillac again, but it will have to be a year 2014 model or older. The models for year 2015 do not have the wreath, and

  31. I am sad to see the Cadillac emblem loose its grandeur. As long as I remember, the emblem has had the majestic wreath. It is a shame to degrade the emblem by taking the wreath away. The emblem as it was with Crest and Wreath had such a beauty to it. I own a 2011 Cadillac SRX and it has the original design Crest and Wreath on it. I love looking at it when I get in my vehicle. When I see the plain Crest, I am glad mine doesn’t look like that. It doesn’t have the distinction that mine has. Please change it back.
