Last week we reported that Chevrolet will introduce a new compact crossover for the Indian market at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The new CUV will ride on General Motors Gamma II global small vehicle architecture, but apparently, it won’t be the Trax.
According to Autocar India, the new CUV will be called Adra. Chevrolet couldn’t import the Trax, as that vehicle is 4.2 meters long, thus making it too big to qualify for India’s excise tax benefit. If the new SUV was subject to India’s high excise tax laws, Chevrolet could no longer price it competitively.
The Adra will most likely be powered by the same 1.3 liter, 77 horsepower diesel engine found under the hood of the Chevrolet Sail hatchback and Enjoy MPV. The Adra will be unveiled next month alongside the updated Chevrolet Beat at the Auto Expo.
