General Motors has announced that Chuck Stevens has been appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Stevens was CFO of GM North America since January 2010, and his appointment to the global CFO position is effective January 15, which coincides with several other executive-level changes at The General, including:
- Dan Ammann leaving his role as CFO to Stevens and beginning as GM president
- Mary Barra beginning as chief executive officer
- Mark Reuss commencing as executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain
- Alan Batey commencing as executive vice president and president of GM North America
In his new position, Stevens, 54, will be responsible for leading GM’s financial and accounting operations on a global basis. He will report to Mary Barra.
“Chuck’s extensive experience in leading finance operations and driving profitable growth all around the world makes him the perfect choice to help our team drive GM’s global performance to new heights,” said Barra.
In serving as CFO of GM North America, Stevens led GM’s financial operations for U.S. Sales, Service and Marketing, GM Canada, GM Mexico, North America Manufacturing, Customer Care and Aftersales, and Global Connected Consumer. He also served as the interim CFO of GM South America from December 2011 to January 2013. Stevens has been with GM since 1983, when he began his career at the Buick Motor Division (remember the times when today’s brands were actual divisions?). He has previously held leadership positions in China, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
“The plan is to build on the good progress made by the finance team in driving the right business decisions,” said Stevens. “I look forward to working with the GM team to drive even stronger business results.”
Replacing Stevens as CFO of GM North America is John Stapleton, currently CFO of GM Global Manufacturing. He will report to the newly-appointed executive vice president and president of GM North America Alan Batey. Stapleton, 45, has more than 24 years of financial experience at GM.
