Corvette Z06 Convertible Imagined In Rendering

The 2015 Corvette Z06 might come with a removable carbon fiber roof, but that hasn’t stopped graphic design company Hansen Art from rendering a totally topless version of Bowling Green’s latest and greatest.

The Z06’s aggressive design actually lends itself pretty well to the convertible render. The missing roof makes the Z06 look a little more friendly and approachable, as if it was saying “Hey, why don’t you relax a bit? You look a little tense.”

Although a hard core convertible based on the Z06 seems extremely unlikely, we think it’s a very cool, well executed idea. A Z06 convertible may not ever happen, but we’d love to a see a C7-based successor to the amazing driving machine that is the C6 427 Convertible.

Sam loves to write and has a passion for auto racing, karting and performance driving of all types.

  2. Why extremely unlikely? If the roof of the Z06 is removable, what would be stopping them? I track my ’01 convertible, but would put a deposit down today if a Z06 convertible was scheduled for production.

  4. NO!! GM you have a great thing going with all the heritage and respect you have garnered with the Z06 and ZR1. Don’t go squandering it on softer, less-focused variants of the very models that have finally put the Corvette in the center of the world stage.

  5. What makes you think that a convertible version would be “soft”? I track my 2001 convertible 10-12 times a year and my lap times are as competitive as anyone’s. It has never been called “soft” or “less focused”. Having an open cockpit does NOT make a Corvette “soft”! What it is is a hell of a lot more fun.

  6. it is in fact “softer” or more accurately “flexible”. And I didn’t say a drop top isn’t fun. But we all know that with few exceptions – a dedicated purpose built track car – will not be better with it’s roof chopped off.

  8. I would agree with you, if we were taking about the C7R, but the Z06 is not a purpose built track car. 99.9% will never be autocrossed or driven at speed on a track. And for those that are, the difference lies with who is in the seat. I’ve run circles around guys with C6 Z06s. Building a convertible Z06 isn’t going to damage the marque. If anything, it will enhance it.

The stiffness of the C7 chassis has allowed Chevy to design the Z06 with a removable roof panel, so the penalty paid for going to a true convertible would be minimal. My Angelwings rollbar more than makes up for the loss of the “halo”, with less weight.

Alan, I’ve driven at speed at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Buttonwillow, Chuckwalla Valley, Laguna Seca, Motorsports Park Hastings, Sonoma, Spring Mountain and Willow Springs. Anyone who owns a Corvette should try it at least once, just to see what an amazing car it is. But I have to warn you, it is extremely addictive!
