Having officially unveiled the mid-size 2015 GMC Canyon, it’s clear that General Motors did its best to differentiate the design of Big Red’s new midsizer from its bow tie-badged brother, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Most significantly, the Chevy bears little resemblance to the full-size Silverado 1500, but the same can’t be said for the Canyon, which you’d be forgiven for mistaking for the Sierra 1500.
With that strong resemblance in mind, some may find the smaller Canyon more handsome than the Sierra in its proportions. Sure, the two trucks may share similar front fascia designs, but from the A-pillar back, the Canyon is slightly more restrained and a tad less boxy.
So, loyal readers, is the 2015 GMC Canyon Hot or Not?

Of the 2 new midsizers, this is the one to buy *unless* you like the more Equinox styling of the Colorado. Canyon has a better interior as a whole (materials-dash, seats, door trim, etc). The base price of the Canyon will no doubt be much higher, but it has a lot more standard features and kit. Big thing is the Autotrac transfer case in the GMC that isn’t even available in the Chev. Basically a lot of the standard features in the Canyon are only available on top trip from the Colorado.
Plus exterior wise, I think it looks a lot better. This is the truck for the people who need a capable vehicle but don’t need the size of the full-size trucks. The Colorado is the ‘life-style’ truck for people that could get by with a CUV.
I know there not in the same class, but like this way better than the new F-150. These trucks are going to do really well, both the Colorado and Canyon. I still dont know what to think of the new F-150, I am sure for the Ford fan boys its smokin Hot, butttt, yaaaa… Way over stylized and that grill WOW… Love the cleaneness of the Canyon, very refined looking like the Sierra.
I like both trucks ,the Canyon is cutie, the Colorado is more manly and since i am Chevy guy, I will buy the Colorado.
@Louis
lol in what world is the Canyon more manly than the Colorado and the Colorado is “cutie”.
haha flip the truck names on my last comment!
prices, let’s see some prices. what is to market date? all versions from day one? (exc. diesel)
picture of canyon at detroit auto show looks to be blue. don’t see that color on gmc.com.
I vote GMC is hot. But, in typical GM fashion they both shine but for different reasons and audiences like Andrew put it so well that I won’t repeat.
GM did a good job targeting two different groups just as they did with the Nox and Terrain.
As for price I am expecting a base truck around $17-19K and they will top out around $34-35K.
Note a later Denali will be around $38K.
@thehof
All the pictures I’ve seen have been a bronze crew cab or cyber gray extended cab
@Scott
Those prices for the base Colorado maybe, base Canyon I bet will be a solid $2500 more than base Colorado.
This Canyon is the best looking compact truck of all time IMO.
That’s it! I am getting a Canyon SLT 4X4 3.6L Crew Cab! I want one now. .
Many sleepless nights ahead on which one to buy for me! :/
