2015 Corvette PDR System Could Eventually Trickle To Other Manufacturers

Earlier this week Chevrolet unveiled the 2015 Corvette Stingray’s Performance Data Recorder at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show. For now, the Cosworth-developed telematics and camera system will be unique to the Corvette, but a Motor Trend report suggests the technology could find its way into other new cars in the near future.

Officials from Cosworth said the company is considering producing aftermarket PDR systems that anyone can mount to their car. Additionally, Cosworth is reportedly in talks with camera maker GoPro about combining their data recorder with GoPro’s rugged, high definition cameras, allowing consumers to pair their lap footage with the vehicles data.

Neither Chevrolet nor Cosworth has commented on how long the PDR will stay exclusive to the Corvette, but Motor Trend suggests it could be several years before another manufacturer integrates the system into one of their vehicles. As for the partnership with GoPro, it would seem that project could come into fruition a little sooner.
