The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans must be smiling big right now. Mostly because they received all of the $700,000 proceeds from the first production COPO Chevrolet Camaro for the 2014 model year that was just sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The COPO Camaro that was auctioned off an 5.7L V8 engine fitted with an enormous 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger. The power is then sent to the rear wheels via a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Keep in mind that the COPO Camaro is not street legal, but is an NHRA-sanctioned drag racer.

God bless the philanthropist who won the bid.
Why do they do this type of stuff in the name of charity? What a scam!
If they really upset you, why don’t you just spit in their faces, OR better yet, write them an email demanding them to spend the on cars from GM.
That’s precisely what the “Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans” needs right now; a froffing-at-the-mouth, hyper-capitalist lunatic demanding them to spend money on GM’s products instead of helping wounded vets live a fulfilling life despite their injuries. Who knows, those vets may have been the very thing between your country standard of living, and ruination.
Go on, email them and tell them how you REALLY feel. I dare you.

The article should say 5.7 liter, not 5.3 liter.
You don’t think that wounded veterans deserve to receive funds through auctions like this?
All charity is bs!
It’s a scam!
They guilt people into paying more for something or taking money out of their pockets in order to support a cause in which they have no idea what the money is being used on or who is using the money on their behalf!
Remember 9/11, Katrina? All of those millions donated and given to countless people that had no business receiving anything because they weren’t even there!
False clams!
Look at the Jerry Lewis kids! 30 years of fund raise and for what? Not one major advancement! Except the people who run it live high on the hog!
Are you really that easily doped?
This is a worthy cause and I hope they put the funds to good use. On a side note about the Camaro: I just wish they’d designed the hood scoop a bit better(slightly more aero)other than that I love it.
Paul
On a side note, I wish GM would do everything in their power to keep you as far away from this camaro as possible!
This camaro is bad ass unlike you!

Please don’t act like I own anything to the vet’s! I have spent my time in the service and I have a box full of metals to show for it!
I’m glad you didn’t serve next to me.
Of course the Camaro isn’t worth $700K, but it’s reassuring to know there are still patriotic Americans willing to donate some of their good fortune to the less fortunate that were willing to give their lives so folks like you could rant about them receiving help.
I hope you find peace in life one day.
Why cut I don’t like charity?
