Thousands Of Dollars In Rims And Tires Stolen From West Michigan Chevrolet Dealership

More than $14,000 in rims and tires were stolen off of four Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicles at Betten Baker Chevrolet in Coopersville, MI, reports MLive.

According to deputies, the suspects used a portable car jack in the thefts, leaving the four SUV’s sitting on cement blocks.

Investigators are searching for a two door pickup truck with an open bed that was seen in the area Sunday night.

The same dealership was the target of a similar crime in October 2012, when tires and rims were removed from 15 Buick Enclaves. The sales manager at the time reported the loss at about $70, 000.

The theft is believed to have occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 29. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Observer at 1-877-88-SILENT or submit tips anonymously at mosotips.com.

  1. Not again! If the thief isn’t found, who’s left to pay up? Is it the dealer, GM etc? Who would do such a thing! $14K is a ton of money for 16 tires and rims! Were they special order rims or something, because how can they be that expensive?

  2. That is a very reasonable estimate. Most wheels on these Tahoe and other vehicles are 18″ to 20″ or bigger. Last time I looked up a wheel for a few Tahoe it ranged from $300 to over $500 each depending in the package. Add the high cost of tires which could be anywhere from $200 to $400 each depending on brand, size etc. Don’t forget the cost of paying your technicians to mount and balance all of them. It adds up quick.

  3. If the thieves are based in Chicago or Detroit, there is little chance they will be found. But if the thieves are local, or Southwest Michigan based… Sooner or later, they will spot jacked up vehicles, sporting huge Tahoe rims from jacked up Tahoes.

They probably are not from those two cities, because if they were… there wouldn’t be any Tahoes left on the lot…. Only empty spaces where they sat.

  4. I guess that the age old practice of allowing customers to roam the car lot on weekends and after hours to window shop w/o a salesman breathing down your neck will soon end! Too bad – because this kind of crap costs us all money in the end!

  6. I thought the Tahoe had “state of the art” security capable of detecting all forms of movement thereby preventing this kind of theft. I’m getting skeptical of GM’s security claims.
