General Motors has announced that world-renowned German supermodel and fashion icon Claudia Schiffer will become the new face of Opel when she stars in the brand’s upcoming ad campaign entitled “It’s a German.”
A Rhineland native, Schiffer has graced the covers of over 1,000 magazines worldwide while being named one of the most beautiful women in the world. Suffice to say that her internationally-successful and illustrious career spanning 25 years speaks for itself. Her Opel commercials will showcase the art of German engineering, starting with the Meriva’s unique rear-hinged doors and the Mokka’s all-wheel drive technology as running themes. At the end of each commercial, Schiffer will deliver the punchline: “It’s a German.”
“Today, Opel stands for the perfect German art of engineering, an emotional design and an unbeatable price-value relationship”, said Opel Chief Marketing Officer Tina Muller. “With Claudia Schiffer we were able to win a German world star who fully identifies with the brand.”
The commercials will air all over Europe, except for in Germany and the United Kingdom (seeing that Vauxhall isn’t German), starting in January of 2014.
“It’s a German”… might not be well received in some Euro countries.
No matter who is reciting it.
“German engineering” is one of the four selling points of the Opel marketing. The same argument helps sell VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes… And the advertisement will not be aired in the United Kingdom (of…), because Vauxhall is supposed to be British.
As to the person starring in the video — Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
