GM Recalls 1.46 Million Vehicles In China Over Fuel Pump Bracket

Shanghai General Motors has recalled about 1.46 million locally built models in China due to an issue with a fuel pump bracket, China’s quality overseer reported on Friday.

Specifically, the Chevrolet Sail and Buick Excelle models have been recalled due to the bracket that holds the fuel pump in place cracking after extended use, which could lead to a fuel leak.

Yale Zhang, head of Shanghai based consulting firm Automotive Foresight, told Daily Finance the recall was so large because the two models affected are high volume, mainstream vehicles, but added that the recall was not a serious issue.

“There are so many recalls these days, and some automakers call back products proactively more as a precaution. In this case, the recall shouldn’t affect GM’s reputation in China that much.” Zhang said.
