Cadillac Delivers First CTS Vsport

The first production 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport to roll off the line has been delivered to the highest bidder in a charity auction benefitting the SAE Foundation’s support of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs.

The car was sold for $120,000 on August 9 at Barret Jackson’s Hot Nights Car Auction in Reno, Nevada to Tim and Pat Whited of Nederland, Colorado. The couple took delivery of their shiny new twin turbocharged sedan at McCoddon Cadillac in Boulder, Colorado. All proceeds went to the SAE Foundation.

“The choice to purchase the vehicle was a combination of this being a great opportunity to support the SAE Foundation and a great opportunity to obtain the first 2014 CTS,” said Tim Whited. “We saw the SAE Foundation/Cadillac display at Reno, then listened to the great presentation on the auction block. At that point, Pat and I looked at each other and decided to participate in the bidding – the rest is history.”

In addition to receiving the first production CTS Vsport ever made, the Whiteds received a performance driving school package as part of their winning bid. Because what’s the point of driving such a sharply tuned vehicle, if it’s beyond your skills?

  1. I love everything about this except for the fact that this money is going to charity! What a scam! Give money to a cause that may or may not ever help GM in the future!

Why not only letting loyal GM customers bid on the car? And by loyal I mean has never owned anything but a GM car!

  2. Stem very well could help GM as it helps guide kids to be better in math and science that often leads to more engineers since they are getting hard to come by.

As for bidding anyone could have bid on this as it was a Barrett Jackson auction where you could Attend, Call In or Bid On Line.

So when the first Z06 or CTS V goes up for auction make sure to register and get involved if you can drop that kind of money.

Keep in mind these go for big money and most who win them use this as a tax write off so they can make generous bids.

  3. The point I was trying to make is GM should make sure these cars only go to real GM fans!

Not just people with deep pockets!

I’m a life long GM fan that has owned only Chevys, I still have my first Chevy!

As for charity, it’s a joke! If GM had a school that they used to teach their interns or people that worked for GM that wanted to stay with the company then I’m all for it!

But to give money to a kid that would never be seen in a GM car or truck is just wrong!

  4. I’m not surprised that you don’t think funding education is important, Ritter. Many of your comments are those of an ignorant, uneducated man.

  5. It’s funny you say I’m not educated, I’m college educated I have a degree and have spent over 20 years in my industry!

I don’t think this is the place to start writing a paper for class or grading how people write! This is a blog just a place for people to put their ideas down so other people can read them! It’s not English class!

  6. Wasn’t talking about your grammar, your ideas. The first C7 convertible was auctioned at Barrett-Jackson for $1,000,000 , the proceeds going to Barbara Kormanos cancer institute. You think that was a waste also?

  7. No I don’t think it was worth it if the car went to some dude that wasn’t a die hard GM fan!

As for cancer, I hate charity for this research cuz it never goes to curing the problem! It gets put into people s pockets don’t believe me go ask Jerry Lewis!

  8. I’m sure not all fundraising is legit, there’s crooks everywhere taking advantage of the sick and poor, etc.

As for the car, it was bought by Rick Hendrick, a die hard corvette fan for sure. He also has the first C7 coupe, and has said he won’t drive either one of them. That is the real waste IMO.

  9. I would rather Rick own it then Jay Leno! At least Rick is a die hard chevy fan and not a flip flopper that buy anything from any manufacturer

  10. Brian the point here is that they are selling a car that is the first one built. Generally most of these cars are the first production car that really means little as it may be the 75-150th car built if you count the pilot and test cars. There is no real added value to these car later on in most cases. It is a cool brag thing but that is it.

At one time these cars were sold to executives and later resold and often lost to history. This still happens with many cars. Keep in mind these are not the first cars off the line just the first one that is sold to the public.

Now here is the second problem here. If they do not sell to the highest bidder then how do you propose they sell the cars. If you have 25 people who want it then how do you pick or choose?

Also the Charities are good for the buyer for a tax write off. GM for Tax write offs, great publicity and who knows they may just give money to a cause that may save your A$$ or someone in your family some day Brian.

Note you also can get a first model if you know the right people. A friend of mine who does a lot of free work for the Camaro got the very first Hot Wheel Camaro built. There were only 5 built before Jan1 2013 and she got the first and the other 4 went to show work and were sold off later. She is the one that recommended the color and they contacted her and told here they will build the car.

Also if you know the right people you can buy a pilot car of Mule sometimes. A plant Manager I know gets a Corvette every year and was offered a driveline test pilot car. This one was not destroyed and even came with the window sticker that states the car was for Driveline Development and was not to be sold to the public. Now in this case this would hold value to many Corvette collectors as it is one of the very few that make it out let alone with the paperwork.

Also GM has sold some one off prototypes that have gone pretty cheap. These are cars that will only go up in the future. They hold much more potential of just the first public sold car.

Keep in mind this may have been the first public sold car but I saw one here in Ohio with the V sport package that was delivered before these folks even got the car. May have not been the first off the line but it was on the road here before these folks picked theirs up. Again someone who had connection.

Brian no one questions your grammar. Your judgment yes but not the grammar.

  11. The point was and still is those cars should be controlled and only allowed to to placed in the hands of true die hard GM fans!

    Remember I’m about GM first!

    I’m a real GM fan

    1. You can always find a bigger GM fan than you. One who’s always bought Cadillac’s, and who has always paid more for their cars in total than you have.

If GM is only going to give money to die-hard, life-long GM fans, the prize money should ONLY GO to those who have spent the most above MSRP.

Seem fair to you, ritter? It should, as the winner would be a bigger GM fan than you, and they have the deeper pockets to prove it.

  12. I’m still waiting for Government Motors to reimburse me for my tax dollars that were wasted bailing this dog out.

  13. You are as dumb as they come! You and your people that believe this crap about GM taking a bail out! How many times do you brain dead idiots need to be told the was no bailout! It was a loan/stock swap! What part of that don’t you not understand?

The government gave GM a loan that GM paid back in full, then the government gave GM a certain amount of money in exchange for stock in the company!

The government new they we’re taking the risk of the stock not returning the amount of money giving to GM!

Once GM repaid the loan it was up to the government to decide when the stocks would be cashed in to cover the money given out!

Don’t blame GM the government knew what they we’re getting into!

    YFA!

  14. You are about foolishness first.

Anyone willing to pay a million for a Vette or $120K for a CTS is a GM person better than most.

  15. Dave this bail out saved you billions in long term welfare and unemployment not to mention more wasted money on a depression.

If you want to complain take a look at Coburns list of waste he presented this week and just see where your money would have gone if not to GM.

  16. Having a GM car or truck in every driveway is the goal! What kind or how much is paid is something I could care less about!

  17. Effectively, you’re hoping for GM to organize a lottery.

A lottery where the price of a ticket is many thousands of dollars (the cheapest Spark is $12K), and the winnings are far less than what a conventional lottery would offer (in this case, $120K).

It’s an unrealistic fantasy born from a crack pipe.

  18. What’s next Brian we only give money raised to GM cancer victims too?

  19. If I was running GM then yes! I would have GM members find die hard GM families and I would help them!

    That’s a great idea!

I would reward people for being a loyal GM customer, and donate the money to that type of charity!

    GM first!
