The first run of Chevrolet SS sedans are fresh off the boat from Australia and almost immediately, Hennessey Performance Engineering has one in the shop. Of course, Hennessey’s SS won’t go untouched, so the Texas-based tuner threw it on the dyno for some baseline power figures.
The SS has a claimed power output of 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, which seems about right, as Hennesey’s test resulted in 359 horsepower and 367 lb-ft at the wheels. These power figures are consistent automatic versions of the cars two door sister, the Camaro SS. In most people’s eyes, that would be more than enough power, but John Hennessey isn’t most people. We’re expecting to see this SS produce some astronomical power figures in the future once its graced by Hennessey engineers, in the meantime, check out the dyno pull in the video below.

I’m personally not a fan of henessey as all he really does is add hp to the car to make it go faster in a straight line. His time would be better spent making aero kits that reduce drag, add downforce, and increase stability. Sure 415hp isn’t much but still, only adding HP won’t do much for the car. Plus it doesn’t make the kits for the SS any special than those for other cars.
Saw the car today for first time. It is an great car inside and out. If GM offered this car in a full variety of trim levels and powertrains, they could easily sell 5,000 per month. It oozes quality and well thought out design. There really isn’t a car that comes close at this price point.
A 2.0L Turbo I4 (VVT, SIDI & iVVL) with 280HP, a 3.6L Supercharged V6 (VVT, SIDI, iVVL & AFM) with 400HP and a 5.3L Twin-Turbo V8 (VVT, SIDI, iVVL & AFM) with 560HP. Have black, tan and gray interiors and have some new exterior colors it would be perfect! Such as: Tungsten metallic, Dark Cherry metallic, Opulent Blue metallic, Purple Haze metallic, Fusion Orange metallic, White Diamond tricoat, Black Diamond tricoat, Red tintcoat, Red Hot 2, Mystic Green metallic, Forest Green metallic and Summit White. . .
That’s pretty good. It’s about 20 to 30 more whp than the typical G8 GXP were putting down. I know this is just one dyno, but still pretty good start.
