Chinese automaker and General Motors partner SAIC Motor has won the 10th annual design challenge at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, beating out entries from major automakers including Mazda, Subaru, BMW, Mini, Toyota, Changfeng, Qoros, and JAC Motors.
SAIC entered the contest with a futuristic-looking vehicle designed for urban public transit for a single person. The vehicle is called the “Mobilant”, which takes inspiration for its operation and body structure from an ant, fitting this year’s theme of “Biomimicry & Mobility 2025 — Nature’s Answer to Human Challenges”.
The importance of SAIC winning the design award shouldn’t go overlooked, as it marks the first times a Chinese entrant won the award.
