General Motors October 2013 Sales Up 16% To 226,402 Units In The United States: By The Numbers

General Motors dealers delivered 226,402 vehicles in the United States in October, an increase of 16% year-over-year. The General’s retail sales were up 16% while fleet sales were up 14%.

The automaker had very good performance overall during the month, with the sales pace improving after the government shutdown ended, according to Kurt McNeil, vice president, U.S. sales operations.

“We are particularly pleased with our truck momentum. Chevrolet and GMC have the newest and best light duty trucks, sales are accelerating and we are gearing up for the second, third and fourth phases of our strategic truck plan”, added McNeil.

October Sales Highlights (vs. 2012)

  • Total Buick sales increased 31% and retail sales were up 25% for the 18th consecutive month of year-over-year growth. Regal sales increased 47%.
  • Cadillac sales increased 10% and have grown in each of the last 13 months thanks to the all-new XTS and ATS; the SRX is on track for its best year ever, with retail sales up 12% for the brand and more than 60% of buyers not trading in a Cadillac, speaking to the brand’s conquest rate.
  • GMC was up 16%, with the Terrain had its best October sales ever.
  • Chevrolet was up 15%, with 13 nameplates posting double-digit increases, including every SUV and crossover nameplate.
  • Retail sales of Chevrolet passenger cars were up 32%. The Cruze had its best-ever October retail sales, Impala retail deliveries nearly doubled, and Malibu retail sales increased 58%.
  • Deliveries of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra were up 10% and 13%, respectively.
  • Sales of the new 2014 light duty Silverado and Sierra increased 62% from September 2014, accounting for about 76% of GM’s light duty deliveries. This is “per plan”, according to GM.

In November, The General will launch the premium-level Chevy Silverado High Country and GMC Sierra Denali, while the redesigned range of heavy-duty pickups — such as the 2015 Silverado HD and 2015 Sierra HD — will arrive in the first quarter of 2014. Also arriving in the first quarter of 2014 are is GM’s all-new range of full-size SUVs, including the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2015 Suburban, 2015 Yukon, and 2015 Escalade. Later in 2014, GM will introduce clean-sheet redesigns of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups.

  1. “Later in 2014, GM will introduce clean-sheet redesigns of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups.”

That right there! So we’ll be seeing them at Detroit NAIAS in January

  2. This is encouraging news, its nice to see GM on the rebound. The Cruze is what fascinates me as it is not exactly “new” anymore.

  3. Nice to see things are on the way up. Crossovers continue to be very popular. As with other manufacturers, they lead the charge in each division or are at least close to the top. The exceptions are against pickups or the basic compact car in the value divisions, here being Chevrolet. And the Equinox is close behind the Cruze. I believe crossovers will take over there too over time. This reminds me, is GM working on a production version of the MPV5 concept based on the Voltec technology? It seems to me that this would soon be the best way to get sales off that tech, besting the Volt in sales.

  4. As a very loyal Buick owner I am glad to see the brand is doing so well. I hope that the 2014 Regal can unbury itself from the hole that the Verano put it in. I drive a 2013 Regal Prem II Turbo and I absolutely love it. I wouldn’t mind getting another one in two years when my lease is up. Hopefully the product will still be around.

  5. You see SRX and Terrain setting records jusr like Cruze–newness is over-rated.

I’m facinated by the Buick/GMC sales channel moving about 55,000 cars this month. The company must make a mint in terms of margins, plus this is good volume for a semi premium brand in the current market.
Would love to learn whether Buick or Caddy is more valuable given the low R&D cost over at Buick.
Lastly, this month shows that large cars are here to stay. Impala, Avalon, 300, Maxima and LaCrosse all posted healthy gains. Small cars like Sonic and Focus capture a bit too much attention given America’s love for SUVs trucks and large sedans.
