After a day of testing on the track and some twisty Midwestern back roads, the Road & Track team have picked their winner of the first annual Performance Car of the Year award, the 2014 Corvette Stingray.
R&T conducted the test out at their own test track, the Motown Mile, located at Detroit’s Coleman A. Young airport (AKA City Airport, where nobody flies into). So they had an airport runway, and 13 of the best new and updated performance cars money can buy, sounds like a good bit of fun. Here’s the list of cars they brought along: Audi R8 V10 Plus, BMW 435i, BMW M6 Competition Pack, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type V8 S, Jaguar XFR-S, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series, Mercedes Benz E63 AMG, Mini Cooper John Cooper Works GP, Nissan GT-R Track Edition and Porsche Cayman S. Interestingly, no Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.
Road and Track raved about the Corvette, much like us and almost everyone else that’s driven it. They said it was the complete package, with all the performance of the hard core SLS and useable power of the Ford Fiesta ST.
Even though we already told you the Chevy’ brought home the win, the article is a great read. Check it out over on R&T’s website.
And the trolls are on full patrol over this victory, too….
Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that the 2014 Corvette Stingray Wins Road &Track “Performance Car Of The Year” award with it’s outdated two valves per cylinder design that are actuated by one single cam through “push rods”?
oooohhh my god!!!
Grinning ear to ear!
With up to 30MPG to boot!
Can’t imagine what the up coming Z07 & ZR1 will be able to do!
