2014 Chevrolet Spark EV Sales Exceeding Expectations

Regional Director of Chevrolet for General Motors Western Region, Dale Sullivan, has told Plug In Cars that the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV, available only in California and Oregon, is selling at at rate “way over our expectation,” he said. “Keeping a good quantity in stock is the biggest problem we have.”
GM sold 87 Spark EV models in October, bringing the year to date sales of the zero-emission hatchback to 397.
The Spark EV carries a base price of $26, 685 before any tax credits. Buyers are eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, as well as a $1,500 credit in Oregon and a $2,500 credit in California.
Sullivan also added that the Spark EV is attracting exactly the type of buyers they want.
“It is getting us our Millennial buyers that we really wanted in Chevrolet, and just like Volt, it gets us conquest buyers,” he added.

I never thought I’d see the day where 50 cars sold in a month is the sales expectations for a GM vehicle. Cadillac Sixteen aside, of course. Is this the smaller, more nimble GM? Really?
This car is pretty nicely priced – but the Stage 3 charger lack of availability just makes it impossible for me to use. Even if my commute were to fit, I can’t buy a car fearing that a change in jobs would make it unusable/unsustainable.
The automakers should be throwing money at gas stations to offer Stage 3 chargers, especially ones with diners or other options to get a pitstop. A network of even a half dozen chargers at a spattering of truck stops dotting I-5 would ensure people could drive these cars up and down California with just a pitstop to recharge.
The automakers backing each Stage 3 charger standard should put up the money to deploy these chargers, so they don’t have to put a smile on the face of selling 87 electric micro-cars in a month.
Appears that the charging station the Spark is parked at has not got much use
I’ve seen these driving around Michigan, no manufacturers plates or anything. Are you sure they are only for sale in California and Oregon?
It sure is odd to see such a small number as exceeding sales expectations.
Anyway, even this should show GM that investing in more electrics is well worth their while. Sure, electrics will only be worthwhile in very large cities for quite a while yet, but that represents a huge portion of the population. And more of us will let go of gas vehicles over time. I’m still hesitant myself. 🙂
Currently it’s only for sale in CA/OR. But it’s designed in Detroit… so GM has a large quantity of field test units in Michigan.
I hope Spark EV will eventually be offered nation wide. I do think there should be a federal Tax credit for anyone who builds public charging stations. I’ll bet it would cost much less than the billions in subsidies to Oil industry. GM, Tesla and all manufacturers should coordinate their efforts to lobby congress to get this done.
That is a gasoline station. And if GM can sell more Sparks and Volts, this is what we expect to see AT ALL GAS STATIONS!
87 sold in October is exceeding expectations? That’s really sad, but I’m not surprised…
I know a lot of people who are interested in buying an EV, but they just can’t bring themselves to drive such fugly cars.
I love my Volt, and I think it’s styling is quite nice. Why did the Spark have to be so darn ugly?
