2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport Goes Head 2 Head With The Lexus GS350 F Sport: Video

In a previous Motor Trend comparison, the Lexus GS350 F Sport had triumphed over the BMW 535i, Audi A6 and Infiniti M37, earning it the nickname “Giant Killer”. So in this episode of Head 2 Head, host Johnny Lieberman finds out if the new, American-built Cadillac CTS Vsport can reign supreme over the German-slaying Samurai.

This might seem like a one sided comparison, as the Cadillac and its twin-turbo LF3 V6 produces 420 horsepower in comparison to the Lexus’ output of 306 horsepower. But these two cars both come in as-tested at about $60,000.

In the video below, Lieberman takes the cars out to Buttonwillow Raceway and on a classic Californian canyon road to see how they manage. The CTS with its electronic differential, magnetic ride control, and Pirelli P-Zero tires proves to be the better performer, putting down a better figure eight time and the shortest stopping distance ever recorded by MT in a sedan, at just 98 feet. But numbers aside, how do the F Sport and Vsport really compare? Find out in the video below.

  1. It’s should surprise no one that the better car here is the CTS Vsport, and I think we would agree that the Cadillac is the car we would want. That being said, I want to give a nod to Lexus for finally making a car that I would not be ashamed to be seen in (the LFA doesn’t count). Still, my money on the line, Vsport each and every time.

  2. Unfortunately no mention is made of caliber and reliability. Lexus wins hands-down. I plan on purchasing a GS350 and will drive it for 10 years. I can’t imagine a GM product lasting that long.

  3. “I can’t imagine a GM product lasting that long.”

Further proof that people with no imagination will settle for what popular perception tells them to.

  4. These are the main reasons why people think it takes ten years to convince people that Cadillac is a great car!

Some people just should not able to buy cars cause they have zero idea of what they are doing!

  5. “IntelliChoice gives the 2007 CTS a value rating of “poor” (the lowest possible) for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.”

I’ll bet anyone a beer. I’ll drive my Lexus 200K miles over 10 years, and you drive your Caddy. We can compare notes at the end. I feel pretty good about the bet.

  6. I will! And you will lose! It’s funny you pick two cars one having over 100 hp more and you just expect both drive trains to have the same cost to operate them!

See people like you are really the problem, you let someone else tell you what kind of car to buy, instead of being a man and picking one on your own!

Only people with zero self confidence in themselves would care what those mags or reports say!

Have fun with your lexus while I blow your doors off going down the highway while your gf/wife says why can we keep up with that car!

I love to hear you explain that in ten years bla bla bla crap!

Good luck I’ll see you at the finish line! B/D!

  7. I could care less about hp. In fact I’ll be trading in (or selling) my 911 C4S to purchase this car. I’ve learned by driving that car and my 2003 G35 there is little difference on American roads.

Rest assured, my gf/wife is more interested in endurance than finishing quickly.

  8. You keep lying to yourself! If you don’t think she enjoys riding in your 911 then you really don’t know women!

  9. Brian, relax dude. You are making assumptions that are far beyond appropriate (and likely your understanding). My wife hates my Porsche for 2 reasons: her 60 yr old body has difficulty negotiating getting in & out, and secondly, she hates to drive a stick. She wants me to get a car that she can drive also. And trust me, her (and our) days of getting a hard-on because we can drive fast are in the distant past. Cars are 4 wheels and a box. Comfort, reliability, and value are more of an automotive turn on than 0-60.
Neither me (or her) need to impress anyone because of a stupid car. That said, we are both quite satisfied laying down the rubber, so to speak. Give it a few years, and you will appreciate what I’m saying. And finally, it’s been my experience that any air-head bimbette who likes you for your car is not worth a tankful of gas…trust me…driving a Porsche, I have personal experience here.

  10. You want a car you both can drive, we’ll with your money you can clearly afford two cars!

But a better q’s is I’d you don’t like GM cars so why on earth would you waste your time talking about cars you clearly can’t stand!

  11. Good grief man!

We have 3 cars…her daily driver is a 2013 AudiQ5…she loves it. I suspect you’re unmarried. But there are times when one of our kids needs the SUV and she wants to drive my car. She doesn’t want to drive the 2003 G35 because I love it so much and well..anyway…she just doesn’t.

On the other hand, when I posted to this site I had no idea it was a GM-homer site. That said, when I talked with my son-in-law who owns transmission repair shops and I told him about my consideration of a Caddy..he said “wtf! are you crazy?!” I will be his worst nightmare customer, I would have the car in his shop a lot, and he couldn’t charge me!

Due respect to the American automotive industry, I hope they get their act together, but not on my dime. However! Once Tesla gets their charge stations all rolled out, I’m in!

  12. Wrong again! I’m married I just don’t walk around with my tail between my legs letting my wife tell me what to do and what we need to buy!

We have 3 cars and I told my wife years ago that we buy GM cars and trucks and If you don’t like it then you can walk!

Being a man is not something you we’re taught as a kid I assume!

You let magazine s tell you what to but, I guy who owns a shop what to buy, and you let a lady you call your wife tell you what you need to buy!

I see a tend here, I wonder why!

  13. Boy, ya got me there. A marriage based on “we buy GM trucks or else”

    Good luck with dat….

Hard to know what else to say.

    Namaste (especially to your wife)

  14. Of course the CTS V sport won here when it came to performance. Don’t get why they didn’t get to compare the CTS 3.6 to the GS350. The V sport would be going up against the upcoming 2015 GS F, which will have a V8 with as much as 465 HP. Wish Cadillac would have used the 6.2L LT1 motor in the CTS V sport.

  15. If Cadillac used the new lt1 then you would get those people saying they are tired of GM using
    The lsx/ltx engines in everything!

    You can’t please everybody!
