OnStar Technology Continues To Reduce Vehicle Thefts: Video1
OnStar has been around since the mid 90’s, and for the last five years of that time, has helped to stop crime in a few hundred cases. OnStar’s Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is available on most 2009+ GM vehicles in North America and China, and is becoming a big player in solving vehicle thefts.
The Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is one of three features that OnStar subscribers have access to, as far as crime-stopping goes. A Remote Ignition Block makes it impossible to start a stolen vehicle once it’s turned off. There’s also a GPS tracker given for the car. Once a vehicle is stolen, law enforcement can access the tracker, and locate the bad guy.
“Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is a prime example of a safety service that our customers rely on us to provide,” said George Baker, emergency services outreach manager, OnStar. “We have a strong relationship with law enforcement that has allowed us to refine our processes, promote teamwork and more quickly recover stolen vehicles for our subscribers.”
Since OnStar came around in 1996, more than 59,000 stolen vehicles have been located using the Stolen Vehicle Assistance services. Not surprisingly, the metro areas with the greatest collection rate were Detroit, Houston, St. Louis, Chicago and Los Angeles.

In 2008 I purchased a 2009 HHR Chevrolet. At that time I had on star. It has lapsed since then and I would like information regarding subscribing again. Cost, what I get etc. Where to call. May I use the same on star vehicle number or do I change it. All information you can share with me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly.
