GM, Capital One Introduce New Rewards Card

General Motors and Capital One have introduced a new credit card with an enhanced rewards system.

The new GM Card offers earnings of 5% on the first $5,000 worth of net card purchases each year and an unlimited 2 percent return on all other purchases. The card has no annual fee, no cap on the amount of rewards users can accumulate, and the rewards don’t expire. Points are used towards the purchase of a new GM card or truck.

The card is available in a universal GM design, or in a Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick or GMC design.

  1. FINALLY!!!!! Several years ago I demonstrated how the GM Card issuer bank of crooks and thieves was using deceptive practices to cheat card holders out of fees. I filed proof of their deceptive practices with the United States Comptroller, since it was a federal bank, who dropped the case when I cancelled the card account. I made the GM President aware of their practices and his office guided me in opening a GM Business Card Account with Chase Bank, who has been an excellent provider, but I lost points with the closed account because they could not be transferred. Small price to pay to expose the crooks. I have used GM points in the purchase of 4 vehicles since they started this program.

  2. I too have used the ORIGINAL card that allows 3500+=500 a year x 7 years at 5% off purchases for points over the years without incident. That card is from the 90s as the original card and is no longer available but so far they have stuck to supporting it since I have it as it was. Ready to use it all again next week. When ordering a car one can have the points frozen for some days as a courtesy and yet keep accumulating additional points until delivery of the car. This is usefull if some months are about to expire while your waiting for the car to arrive for delivery…so effectively one could get up to 4k off not 3.5k if done carefully.

  3. Hmm, so there’s still a cap? I’m a little confused. I know there’s no cap on how much you can earn, but there’s still a cap on how much you can redeem – correct?

  4. To me, the biggest advantage of this new card is that there is NOT a cap on how many points can be redeemed on each vehicle. The writer failed to mention that.
