The Encore has been a surprisingly good seller for Buick since its introduction to the lineup. It’s versatile, and roomy, yet many would claim it to be under-powered with the 138 hp 1.4L turbo being the only engine offering. This, according to Edmunds sources, is deterring even more customers from choosing the small crossover. Though there could be plans to change that.
Most likely, the Encore will receive some sort of powerplant coming from overseas. Why? GM’s Opel and Buick divisions are becoming more and more closely related as the lineups grow, and GM’s newly-released 1.6-liter turbo-four engines (both gas and diesel) are possible candidates for the Encore, which debuted in Opel products. With the Encore still on its debut year, we’ll have to see what happens.
