2016 Cruze Prototype Again Spied At The Nürburgring: Video

Spy photographers from Worldcarfans have managed to catch glimpse of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze prototype under testing at the Nürburgring. In addition, Motor Trend has a shot at the new interior of the 2016 Cruze, which is completely redesigned. The compact sedan will debut the new D2xx global platform and a new 1.5L Ecotec engine when it arrives in time for 2016.

Originally planned for a 2014 launch date, the new Cruze is said to be delayed until Q4 2015, as a 2016 model. But we wouldn’t be too shocked if we see a show car of sorts this coming auto show season.

GM has said the all new Cruze will feature an all new interior and exterior, improved cabin and trunk space and better fuel economy. The automaker will invest $220 million in its Lordstown, OH plant to produce the 2016 Cruze.

  1. I wonder if the updates to the chassis will include all wheel drive. 😉

    1. I’d be surprised if the 1.5L engine can generate enough hp to drive four wheels let alone two.

      1. In a world where turbocharged 2.0L engines are pushing 350 hp, and turbo 1.6L engines are pushing 200 hp, an all-new turbo 1.5L will probably be just fine.

  2. look at how the base of the windshield blends directly into the hood line It also matchs that of the side windows . It creates a sleeker shape , with excellent frontal visibility , more like the Honda Civic . This is how the 2014 Malibu should have been designed . The hood to windshield height must be about 3 inches higher in the Malibu . It creates a boxy look plus the shorter driver’s visibility forward could be compromised . From where I’m sitting , I expect that the designers of the 2016 Cruze had no part in the continuing fumbles with the Malibu.

  3. Well the Malibu and the new Cruze were designed years apart. The Malibu was a design rooted back in the pre Chapter days and was late coming to market. The new Cruze is not that old. In fact the New Malibu dates to a time the original Cruze was designed.

As for AWD the Cruze is not that kind of car. Chevys are value leaders and they are targeted as a lot of car for less money, They also want to go for more economy with better MPG.

AWD will be left to the Buick, Opel and Cadillac lines. If you added AWD to the price of the Cruze it would put it at a level few would pay for a Cruze and go to the other cars that offer more at that price range.

    1. Scott, Indeed that sounds more likely. I was wondering if the chassis will support it.

  5. Well we in Europe will not be getting anymore Chevy’s which in some ways is said but they never quite got the interior materials right. So hopefully we will see some more models from Vauxhall Opel. I hope the UK gets the astra saloon its a nice car. And I hoped vauxalls looks towards Buick for classier interior finishes and colours
