2015 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe Spied Testing

What could be a sexier concept than the upcoming 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Sedan? The 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, of course, which was spied very recently testing outside of the Milford Proving Grounds. And it aims to take the lightweight title from BMW and its upcoming M4 coupe.

From the looks of things, the shape appears to be a more matured and evolved look of what the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe presented us when it first launched. Compared to the standard ATS, there’s all the necessary performance attributes, such as wider hips to fit wider tires, larger brakes, and now a quartet of exhaust pipes instead of just two. We’re expecting the latest in GM’s magnetic ride control technology in the suspension system, and the virtually lag-free 3.6L LF3 twin-turbo V6 under the hood. We can hardly wait.

  1. The link explains the cobbled up “Buick” grille seen in these shots. I like what I see and the rear definitely has all the Cadillac characteristics, ie. the taillights and what looks to be the CHMSL at the top center of the trunk. Neat stuff, thanks. 🙂

  2. Dang… I’ve got to win a lotto.

  3. You have better chances of going back to school and getting a better education than hanging everything on a lotto win.

I’m not against the lottery or gambling, it’s just that the odds of winning are so damn small its hardly worth the effort.

    1. Is it just me because I don’t think it’s right to not have a V8 under the hood of a V-Series Cadillac! Save the TTV6 for the V-Sport.

      P.S. Grawdaddy- You can’t win unless you play. . . .

It’s you. I really don’t care how the V cars are powered. They just need to be the best in their segment. If the ATS-V came with a potent TT-V6 pushing 450+hp, I wouldn’t look down on it as being less of a V-series car.

I mean, 10 years ago the C5 Z06 had 405hp. We all thought it was amazing. But now with the LF3, Vsport CTS could dump on the Z06. If the ATS can do better with a variant of the LF3, then what’s the harm?

Also, nested reply comments still aren’t working for me.

    1. I completely understand what you are saying, but I like the big rumble of a V8 and that’s something that the 3.6L just can’t offer. Twin turbo or not. Now a supercharged 3.6L with 400HP in a Chevrolet SS might persuade me. . .

  5. Grawdaddy by the time he did all that it would be a 15 year old car. Not to mention school loans and finding a high paying job after college

  6. I agree that the V6 TT is just going to do fine. This car will be very popular not only here but Europe with the TT V6 where You have to market this car a little different,. Over there you have to factor in the tech factor that is very important to many. They buy cars for much different reasons there. This is the same reason so many Americans do not understand F1 as it is the strategy and technology that commands their attention and not the passing on track. Nothing wrong with that but it is a different look. Many Americans here are also taking the same veiw with the smaller performance cars.

Also it will give incentive to step up to the CTS V at the much higher price than it was.

As for the lottery it is a suckers bet. If you want to gamble at least put the odds more even in your favor with black jack. It is as simple as doing the math.

  7. You gotta bite the bullet someday. You can take the student loans and wait and then get a car you really want, or live to be 70 playing the lotto every week and never win a damn thing.

Or you can be like me. I paid my way though my school and don’t have any debts. Right now, the ATS sits higher on my list than it did 6 months ago. We’ll see what happens in 6 more months.

  8. The fact is today many people can go into areas like welding and machine work and make a lot more money than if they went to collage. The Skill Trades are lacking good solid workers and many of these jobs can pay into 6 figures.

My father In Law make over 6 figures as a welder. He owns a new Cadillac.

Learn a trade, be able to show up every day and be able to pass a drug test and you can make a very good living.

  9. I can agree with that. The skilled trades are grossly underrepresented, and still suffer the sting of poor public image.

I’m not in any skilled trade per se, but my background knowledge of my ‘craft’ is firmly rooted in one. If I am to become anything that I’ve planned to be, it will be done so on the back of the work I’ve done. It’s invaluable.

If I get an ATS, i get an ATS. I don’t hold ATS ownership as a standard of which my life is to be judged by. If everything works out, I’ll get whatever car I feel suits my tastes, not just because the money is good or that I would have unhealthy status seeking ambitions.

Sure, I could drop everything, backtrack, chase down the skilled trade of my choosing, and make $80K+ a year. But I don’t want the amount of money I make in a year and what car I drive to be what describes me.

I guess it comes down to how you see money. Do you see disposable income as a mild symptom of your craft, or what will let you climb a social ladder with whatever it is you buy?

  10. I have a business degree and work in a office today but worked and learned mechanic and machine skills while I was going to collage. I was even offered a full time apprenticeship in machine work. I my son today wanted to skip collage and learn either one of these trades or even welding etc. I would have no issue with that at all.

I would also instill that you show up every day and keep off drugs as companies will take many half ass people and pay them well just if they can do either of these

We have a hard time at work today hiring or keeping folks because they use up all their sick time staying home playing games on line all day and night or they can pass a simple drug or background check.

I had one collage teacher tell everyone that If you just show up the company will love you and that was in the 80’s. This has only become more true today.

  11. I would rather see the new LT1 in this rather than a turbo 6. That would definitely differentiate this from BMW since they have eliminated NA engines. In the real world the LT1 gets better MPG as well. Please make this at 450-460 V-8. In all actuality it will be way cheaper to make this a V-8 also since there are way less expensive parts in the engine. Its just stupid chasing a pipe dream when your bread and butter is way more potent for cheaper and less money to run.

    1. I don’t know if the 6.2L would do very well in the ATS (I don’t know why though). However, I hope that GM can make the 4.5L V8 quickly! That would be a perfect engine for an ATS! Put an Eaton M90 supercharger on it and it will have around 500HP and 520LB-FT. I hope the ATS will come with an 8-Speed Auto and a 7-Speed Manual soon too!

I hope the CTS-V has the 7-Speed Manual option. I hope it comes with a 4.5L Twin Turbo V8 with around 610HP and 625LB-FT.

  12. The LT1 is lighter, smaller, more efficient, much cheaper and more powerful than the TT 3.6. The LT1 is by far the best engine for this application. GM is just trying to copy the germans who are using boosted 6 cylinder engines. GM needs to one up them and put in a real V8!!!!

I’ll bet that you’re a riot at parties. Winning the lotto, was supposed to be a joke.

Not many people can afford this beauty of car in terms of personnel economy, nor is it practical for the majority of people.

This is what the ATS is supposed to be… a beautiful coupe, with fangs.
The kind of car, that one dreams about… if you’re loaded with money, and you don’t need a workhorse.

As for your pedantic need to preach the obvious virtues of education, and deferred gratification, you are assuming that you’re talking to adolescents, who still haven’t mastered common sense. And when it comes to common sense… there is no institution, of higher learning, that offers a degree in it.

The ATS, as beautiful as it is… doesn’t make common sense, to own. Its like having a drop dead beautiful wife, that can’t cook, is dumb as a rock, but is good in bed… good for those who have money and time, for high maintanance luxury.
