2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 Waiting List As Long As 1 Year: Sources

Supplier constraints are causing a growing waiting list for the 2014 Corvette Stingray equipped with the track-ready Z51 package, which adds an electronic limited slip differential, slotted brake rotors, a dry-sump oil system, and more.

When conversing with dealer sources recently, we were informed that customers that are currently placing orders for Z51 Stingrays will have to wait as long as one year, some even being built as 2015 models. Of note, while the wait is indeed long, GM isn’t expecting the current 75% take rate of buyers ordering their 2014 Corvette Stingrays with Z51 package to continue as high as it is, and will eventually lower once the hardcore buyers get their fill.

  1. And Gee the critics must have been wrong about the radical styling and Camaro taillights. LOL!

You could have seen this coming.

  2. But sccccooootttt….the tailights remind me of an Infiniti (if I lie to myself), and I can’t accept the fact that my LS1 powered C5 FRC isn’t cool with the kids anymore. YOU’RE WRONG AND i HATE YOU!

I won’t buy another thing from gm unless they change the tailights and body panels to look like my car!!!!!!11 They’re loooossing sooooooooo mich money by making it look like that! I know I’m right because I still get comments from people who say “nice car” and “sharp” when ever I go to jiffylube or when i;m going thru the McDrive.

  3. I hope this is a try at sarcasm. LOL!

What scares me is I have seen some lost souls who really do post that way LOL!

  4. It was 100% sarcasm. I was trying to channel the rather childish anger that some people have when they react to the C7’s taillights as if someone had insulted their mother, and then threw up on her.

A pity some people thought I was serious.

  5. The waiting list isn’t because there is such a high demand for the Stingray, it’s because GM can’t get their act together and fill the orders as requested ( the Z51 Pkg.). G.M. apparently underestimated the Z51 pkg. demand or the suppliers could not fulfill their end of the deal. While the car is selling well at this juncture (a new generation, so no surprise here), there will be many cars on dealers lot (not pre-sold) to choose from in the following months.

I think the entire back end needs a redesign, it’s not just the lights.

  6. Well, no. GM is restricting supply to keep the residuals up. Nobody wants to see a C7 in a trailer park in 3 years time because its residuals fell through the floor. It reflects badly upon GM and the Corvette nameplate if it were too affordable and evenly available everywhere for as many people as possible.

There needs to be an air of exclusivity in all future Corvettes. You can’t get that way with over-supply, or by being sold at affordable prices.

That, and there’s nothing wrong with the rear fascia of the C7; it’s certainly not enough to harm demand for the car as you can see from the eBay page.

  7. First off the Stingray is the base Corvette, it is not an exclusive car. We both know that GM has directed the style and starting price (52K) to target the younger buyer, and also to get some Porsche buyers interested. You are going discourage Porsche buyers when you have constraints on the Z51 performance package. In fact some Stingray buyers (see the Corvette forum C7 section) are cancelling their orders out of frustration.

Tadge Juechter (Chief Engineer) in a recent response to sales, told Automotive News, “We’ve seen this again and again. You bring in a new Corvette and the demand is sky-high at the beginning and then tapers off.” that sales tend to be strong at the introduction and then taper off.

The dealers would love to keep selling the base Stingray at MSRP and they certainly want to sell as may of the highly optioned units (including Z51 Pkg) as possible. They understand that you have to sell why the interest is high in the Stingray.

There is a strong segment of the Corvette community that does not like the rear end styling, and you only need to read the endless threads on the Corvette forum and view video’s were Tom Peters and others on the Stingray team are having to defend the styling.

Yes you will see a C7 in a trailer park in the near future.

  8. I kind of figured LOL!

Here is the reasons the car is in short supply.

    It is new model

It had a slow start up for quality and demand

It also the best performing sports car for the money made anywhere

The styling and tail lights are no where has hated as some would like for the rest of us to believe

And not matter what GM does there will be some park some where with one as you can not contol this issue. It is the price you pay for being such a good car at a very affordable price.

  9. “There is a insignificant minority of the Corvette community that does not like the rear end styling,”

    Fixed to reflect reality.

Seriously, neither of us have quantified anything here, but to throw abstractive stats around, for every 1 post I’ve read about the rear fascia, I read over 30 that like the car as is.

And best of all, of those 30 post, nearly all of them are of younger people who don’t care about the 1960’s, or even the C6 because of it’s low-rent, blue-collar stigma.

The only way you’re going to get around this is to PROVE that the whiny minority of people on a Corvette forum are anything greater than the angry keyboard warriors they’ve made themselves out to be.

That one video from Peters doesn’t summarize the meat of the C7 rear fascia issue. You’ll want to hear from Ed Welburn on the C7 as a matter of principle and as an authority.

    As for this:
“the Stingray is the base Corvette, it is not an exclusive car.”

The C7, in any trim, should be exclusive. The trailer parks are for the Camaro, both by volume and by stereotype.

  11. Let’s just hope that no matter how long the list or the wait time quality control is no sacrifices to appease the inpatient customer. GM cannot afford to put a crappy product on the road regardless if someone wants to pay $2K to $20K over MSRP. Please GM do it right or don’t do it at all regardless of what people are saying.

  12. Enough with the camaro rear light
The italia 458 lights look like my 2013 trailer light that I have bought last year

  13. Please put a memo out to all your sources that they are not to get in a hurry to meet schedule and therefore bypass quality control on any part or your C7 Z51 are going to have many recalls and basically have a reputation of being a POS. You or the customers do not want this and it will be the end of GM Corvette line for sure. Make them double check every piece of equipment they are producing and if it doesn’t pass 100% QA scrap it. We don’t want it on our cars.

  14. Only the low information buyers are paying anything above MSRP. You can pay MSRP or less (as much as 5K off MSRP) all day, every day!

The C7 is a great product but GM has done a poor job promoting of the C7 vette (just a week ago getting the exterior color palette working on the C7 configurator, a month after cars had been shipped!), numerous constraints on carbon fiber, Z51 pkg, and the quality control has been remiss to say the least. The non Z51 Vetts will be backing up on dealers lots very soon!

Regarding the C6 being a blue collar car, my 427 costs more than the base “Stingray” even with a heavy discount. This comment would be from a person who does not own a Corvette and is unfamiliar with the different models, aka C7 Fan boys!

  15. I ordered my convertible C7 with the Z51 package in June expecting it in January and I received it a few days before Christmas and I love every inch of her! Merry Christmas to meeeeeeeeee! No delays here!

  16. I’ve ordered our very 1st real sports car ever and let me tell you I’m beyond excited to say the least .

although I have placed the order out Oct. 16 2014 and they say 6 to 8 weeks to building it seems more and more that it might be late January at the bare minimum that we get it for the 2015 model.

Point is I never thoug we would be able to afford a car and I’m under 35 to be able to purchase this vehicle which never seen a reality just beyond comprehension sometimes if Corvette head and never redesign the c7 this way I would have never looked at this car Steven purchases I would have been more of a Mustang Orr Cadillac guy so they are truly doing something right as most people that do not like this car or much much older grandpa age

And that’s fine to one’s own but if they don’t like them they don’t have to bother but now the young people have seen this car everyone is raving about it and if the older people are only 10 years or less from kicking the bucket then the Corvette industry is definitely looking to grow its army of loyalist for this Corvette yes young owners for the future

    Case in point Nough said
