2014 Camaro Z/28 Team Aim To Lower Already Fast Nürburgring Lap Time

The fact that the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 ran the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:37.47 is amazing. The fact that the time was done in the rain, is simply incredible. At the end of the run, driver Aaron Link had to slow way down, just to keep those slick, 305-wide Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires from slipping the car into a guard rail. And it still beat the Lamborghini Gallardo, among other exotics. So, while still a very fast time, the engineering team knows that the car can lay an even faster time down, should the weather hold up.

That being the case, expect the 2014 Camaro Z/28 to revisit the Nürburgring in the months to come.

  3. I’m thinking high-twenties if they’re lucky.

If VTEC kicks in, they’ll get it in under 7 minutes.

  4. Would be very interesting to bolt up a set of the wheels & tires from the Z/28 onto the ZL1 and see what time it would run?

I am somewhat amazed GM is using 60 tread wear tires on a production car? I wonder if their is some sort of disclaimer when you buy this car…”Be advised, these R compound tires are intended for track use, will wear quickly and not recommended for use in the rain”

  5. Well first the performance is much more than just the tires.

GM has made it clear this is not a car intended as a daily drive so the tires are not an issue. Also GM has extended the warranty to include track time so it makes it clear that this is a car targeted for track first but you can still drive it legally just do not complain about tire wear and not enough heat in the brakes. So If you buy this car and have issues in the rain driving to work and tire wear it is on you as GM has made it clear of the primary propose of this car.

As for time I am thinking 7:29-7:30 as 7-8 seconds is a lot of time and the 7:37 was not a full wet track. The last part were the most rain was you have a lot of straight away so he did lose time in parts of the first part and parts of the second part. I think he would do very good to see 8 Seconds gained.

If you have ever driven this track on the computer you also know that cars in the 8 second range can make big gains but at the higher speeds and lower times it get tougher to gain each second.

  10. Those purchasing the Z/28 will already understand the value of the tires – without any detailed explanations.

    Humourless, all of you.

  12. Hey with the web It at times can be hard to tell a joke for someone with no clue. It helps at times with a LOL at the end to make it clear that it was a joke and not a nutty comment.

  14. Well they picked up almost 6 seconds with a fully dry track. Unfortunately the cameras were’nt rolling (unofficial) but still very impressive. The 7:20’s like some were predicting was quite a stretch to say the least. They better have the Z/28 in the new Forza game thats soon to debut…cause for many (including me) that’s the closest they will get to actually piloting one lol.
