Motor Trend Renders Upcoming Cadillac Flagship (LTS)

Without a doubt, the Cadillac Elmiraj concept revealed at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance is the best indicator yet of what a production-spec Cadillac flagship will look like. Recently, it was spotted testing in its earliest stages of development, disguised as a rag-tag Chevrolet Caprice. But what will it look like when Cadillac pulls the sheet off its finalized design come two years from now? Motor Trend has a pretty good idea, and managed to render a photo of what could end up being the 2016 Cadillac LTS.

  1. Do not get to excited or upset as this is not a very good rendering. The second one is a little better but I would still hold off holding it as production as GM is still working on the car.

The real car will be cleaner and better detailed and proportion. Motor Trend is just trying to draw attention till they get some real news.

If you squint real hard and only use one eye you may get an idea but not the true picture. We have a little ways to go yet before we see the real thing.

  2. I would personally appreciate it if that silly “new” Cadillac logo be not flogged around as if it was a sure thing. I hate the way it looks and even the powers-that-be have stated that it was just something that was being toyed with. Toy is right because it looks like it belongs on a Hot Wheels rendition and not on a serious competitor to the likes of MB and BMW.

    1. I think the new logo may be staying. It was on a Cadillac commercial I saw yesterday too.

      1. I saw it too, but they literally just took the wreath off of the existing one. It wasn’t the new one on the concept.

  3. OK, draw the Chevy bar through the middle of that rendered grille and place a
Chevrolet logo in the middle – Wala! It’s a larger version of the new Malibu grille!

Cars that are not electrically propelled have huge gaping grilleworks that must
be designed into the car. They suck tons of air into a radiator and ruin the
aero cd. Even the Tesla Model S, the world’s most revolutionary car, and
possibly the best ( made in USA ) had to include a grille-like design in front
even though in needs very little airflow for it’s air-cond. heat exchanger and
battery cooling. Why? Folks since the early 1900s have gotten accustomed to
grilles. In my opinion, try to make them smaller and less gaudy.

ELR’s grille is mostly fake, but it’s gaudy and ridiculous. Brand identity doesn’t
have to be so homely and over-the-top.

Go ahead and neg me GMauthority regulars – be predictable fanboys.
But you know I’m right on this. GM needs new designers, I believe Ed Welburn
    needs a replacement.

    2. I don’t believe that a grille has anything related to car buying. The rear-engine Porsches have very little or no grilles, yet they sell very well in America. The Spark EV has a covered grille because it is using the same gas engine body. Newer BEVs will have a reduced grille, or maybe none. GM may redesign the Volt and ELR without a large grille.

    3. Grills are the face of a brand in many cases and in the past as well as today they help identify a car. This is why even electric cars have fake grills.

Also some electrics have to have air flow to cool electric motors and batteries. Just because there is no engine does not mean there is no cooling system or the need for a condenser for the AC unit.

Before you complain learn what systems are in a car and learn what needs need to be met as just because there is no engine does not negate the needs of other systems.

As for styling it is subjective and for every one that hates there is 25 that loves the grill.

I would take big and gaudy over the frog looking Leaf.

  4. I dont think theyre going to use the Elmiraj grill on it period in terms of having the whole grill exhibit the dark mesh appearance, more like something along the lines of the Ciel grill as has been done with the new CTS. Although, as i give it some more thought, designers could combine the appearance of the Ciel grill and its horizontal bars and combine that with the dark mesh appearance from the Elmiraj, that sounds like an intriguing combo to me. The backend, as is with the hood and grill in this chopped photo looks like whoever did it literally just took it from the elmiraj, changed the color to gray, and stuck it on the new CTS body. Although to be fair i have no doubt that the LTS’s body wont have a different design/lines to it. The hood design with its sculpted lines i’m fine with, i like it, along with the grill. The rearend/trunk lid design on the other hand i’m not crazy about, yet at the same time I’m not crazy about the elmiraj’s backend either, which is what this is, just on a lil different application, and i dont think its going to transfer over to the LTS either.

    1. Who is to say they don’t use both? The CTS and CTS V have had two different grills.

      Time will tell.

  5. This rendering isn’t to shabby. It does give a good idea of what the car will look like. I do believe that mesh grille will make it to production; probably in the form of a traditional egg crate grille in the non-V models. My only gripe with MT’s rendering is that it resembles to heavily the new CTS, which is understandable seeing as to how that is Cadillac’s face. I would personally like to see a more stately design; something that incorporates the corporate look of Cadillacs into a bold yet conservative and elegant look. Much like how the Ciel and Elmiraj does.
