GMC Unveils All-New 2015 Yukon Family

Seven years after the launch of the GMT900-based model, we have a new 2015 GMC Yukon. Not just a new Yukon, but a new 2015 Yukon XL, and 2015 Yukon Denali flagship. The SUV is all changed the ground up, utilizing the new K2XX body-on-frame platform introduced by the 2014 GMC Sierra. However, the looks of the Sierra don’t find their way into the new Yukon family, as their contemporary designs are unique and share no body panels.

Like the 2015 Tahoe and 2015 Suburban, the all-new 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL are more refined than ever before, and offer features like power fold-flat rear seats, available magnetic ride control, greatly increased safety equipment, the latest infotainment technology with GMC IntelliLink, and expected increases in fuel economy to go with the newfound power from the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 L83.

Meanwhile, the Yukon and Yukon XL Denali models feature more exclusive content. A 420 horsepower, 460 pound-foot 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 L86 is made available, as are standard 20-inch wheels, and a more distinguished exterior complete with a signature honeycomb grille. Look for the 2015 GMC Yukon family to make it into dealers by the first quarter of 2014.

  1. The first thing I thought with that front end was the Infiniti QX, i.e. not good. I do like everything else, interior looks phenomenal. I guess I’ll see how that front end change in live photos and in person.

  2. These definitely look better than their Chevy counterparts, again the interiors are beautiful.

  3. Looks good…

  4. This is just pitiful. Another half-assed product from the GM truck division. Is this truly the best that they could do?!? I think not. Mediocrity has returned in full force to GM and if left unchecked will inundate even the car divisions as well.

    1. How is it half -assed may I ask??

  6. Where is the DIESEL?

  7. I like it and I like the approach. Take what was already strong for you and improve on it. There’s a bunch of good things that will pay dividends on this truck, like the doors that rest within the body shell, the fact that the third row doesn’t have to be removed, and that it appears that you can make a flat surface all the way to the front seats. Throw in the infusion of technology that these are getting, and I think it’s a recipe for continued success.

  8. Much better looking than the Tahoe/Burban by far, hopefully their design will look better in person!…kinda looks like they ripped off some art an science design themes with the swooping headlamp design and with the light bar surrounds as well but a minor gripe on a overall great looking SUV!

  9. Like it 🙂

  10. There’s no need for any of the new trucks to have column shifters anymore. That is the weakest part of the interior.

    1. Its a TRUCK NOT A CAR

      COLUMN SHIFTER ALL THE WAY

      1. So the F150 is a car? Sure kid.

I know it’s offered either column or console in the Ford. It’s just a shame that GM continually chooses the low-rent approach with columns.

        1. Haha “low-rent,” I’m glad GM is sticking to column shifters, they open up some space for storage or a front bench seat by getting it out of the way and in these pictures the console area looks clean, but maybe they should offer console shifters as an option because a lot of people like the “look,” but I can’t care less if they do.

          Reply
    2. As much as I prefer console shifters, I must admit; Colum shifters just work better. They are more intuitive to the hand, they clear up space in the center console for storage, and when doing “parking lot pimping ” it’s hard to beat the almost seamless forward to reverse and back again ability that comes with good column shift actuation.

I don’t know what it is, but something about the quick, short, efficient movement of a column shifter makes the car (or truck) seem so much smaller, and more responsive to my commands.

  11. Was hoping for a saddle brown/black interior option! Interior will be a show stopper.

    1. Also true across much of the GM line up, both interior and exterior versus the competition.

  12. I predict that the pick up rate on Denali will increase as a percentage of Yukon sales.

Front elevation is reminiscent of the first gen Denali- in a good way!

  13. I sincerely hope they new escalade doesnt look as choppy as this.

Im only saying choppy because the flow of the vehicle just isnt right… Nervous. very nervous.

    1. I think its the flat roof that makes it look choppy, will be better in person.

  14. I definitely prefer the design of the Yukon over the Tahoe/’Burban. The headlights are very much a Cadillac design cue though, I bet the Escalade will have the same headlight shape but with LEDs. Interiors look great, especially in Denali trim. Fold flat seating is LONG overdue. A good effort.

    1. There is already pictures of the Escalade headlights and they are very different.

  15. Now this is more like it: an attractive, modern and creative design given to the new Yukon. I’m sorry but the new Chevy Tahoe/Suburban is a huge let-down in the design department. This on the other hand takes a more sophisticated approach. Upon first seeing the new Yukon I was immediately reminded of perhaps the Infiniti QX or the Escalade, but done in a more streamlined way. This certainly has style without being to garish. The Yukon should definitely be the better selling SUV.

  17. Looks NICE. I’ve always been a fan of the GMT900s, but hated the lack of rear leg room and the dumb 3rd row seat design. Are there any pics of the rear interior?

    Reply
    1. There are interior pics on the Chevrolet Tahoe/Burban page. I get what GM is trying to do! The Tahoe and Suburban are more ruggid, the Yukon is mid luxury and the Escalade will be high end luxury. I am still looking forward to a 9 speed auto, a Turbo 2.8L I6 (VVT, SIDI, AFM and DOHC) with 311HP and 302TQ and a Turbo 4.3L V6 (VVT and AFM) with 379HP and 386TQ

  18. I’ve been wait for this roll-out for almost a year. Pretty!!
I Have two small complaints; Black, Brown, White, Silver and Red. What ever happened to Midnight Blue?
I was a little disappointed after reading the towing capacity, was hoping the 1/2 ton XL would be a little closer to 9k. Reason being, that I don’t tow a boat year round and like the fuel mileage of a 1/2 ton vs a 3/4 ton when not towing.

    1. I with you on towing. My ’09 XL Denali tows over the 8100 limit today and does very well. Reading that its actual 7800 on the ’15 XL Denali doesn’t make me happy, especially with what they were able to get out of the new Sierras. I realize its all relative to total weight but I wish they could have shed some more weight on this beast to increase tow— especially on the Denali with the 6.2. There’s plenty of strength in that drivetrain to easily pull 9600+ that the 3/4 ton.

GMC, you state you have a Denali package in all vehicles now. Can’t wait for you to actually fulfill the promise when you bring the 3/4 ton Yukon XL Denali HD to market. 🙂

  20. Made that comment about the pickups as well.

They had a great dark blue on the GMT400’s and then into the GMT800s and then changed to a Bright Blue. There a huge response from customers and dealers so they ended up bringing it back …. but now dropping it again on the new pickups.

Ford and Chrysler both have a more extensive exterior color palette than GM. Being competitive in color combinations must not be deemed important.

    1. GM should reintroduce colors on the Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Saturns onto their new lineup. Like Dark Cherry Metallic/Cranberry Red Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Dark Mocha Metallic, Dark Tropic Teal Metallic, Silver Moss Metallic, Dark Forest Green Metallic/Emerald Green Metallic, Graystone Metallic, Crimson Red Tincoat, Granite Metallic, Fusion Orange Metallic/Brazen Orange, Golden Cashmere Metallic, Stealth Gray Metallic, Purple Haze Metallic/Medium Purple Metallic

  21. Finally !!!!! It dosent look like an oversized Envoy anymore!!!!!!!

    Reply
    1. The Yukon never looked like an Envoy! You say it like the Envoy was such a terrible truck. The only bad thing on Envoy’s were the 4.2i and the 4 speed transmission. The 4.2i should have had VVT and AFM. GM should have had either a 6 speed auto with driver shift control or a 6 speed manual! I would have so bought a Denali 5.3 Manual. . .

Maybe GMC can put a manual in the Terrain! I was also thinking how GMC should bring a utility/sport wagon into their lineup (think Saab 9-3X, Subaru Outback or Audi Allroad). When the new Chevrolet Equinox comes out, I want a Saab 9-4X type vehicle again! Chevrolet should get a Cruze hatch/wagon and a Malibu coupe. Cadillac should get a CTS wagon and ATS convertible.

      Off topic here, but:

GM should merge Buick and GMC together to form an ultra lineup full of luxury so they can bring Pontiac back! Think about it for a second before you go off on me! GMC and Buick are both luxury brands, so why have two? GM does not have a full-scale performance brand, so bring back Pontiac!

  22. Why can’t they come out with a diesel powertrain? Seriously! As far as I know, the ONLY 7 passenger diesel SUVs out there are the Mercedes GL550 and the Audi Q7. I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.0L Mercedes diesel in it. However, I now need a larger vehicle, so I’m now looking at the Tahoe/Suburban // Yukon/Yukon XL. If GM was smart, they’d reintroduce the diesel into their SUVs. I bet that more people would buy them – I’d very likely be one of them.
