GM Tonawanda Powertrain Facility On Track To Produce 1,000 Engines Daily

The General Motors Tonawanda, New York engine plant may be 75 years old, but that doesn’t make it irrelevant, or slow by any means. 1,500 jobs have been created and retained since 2009, and it is imperitave to all GM vehicles with a Generation V small block V8 engine. That means trucks like the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, with much more to come, as we can imagine.

By the time the plant hits its stride with the new Small Block engines, it will produce more than 1,000 engines daily, where they will then be sent to facilities like the Flint and Fort Wayne assembly plants to fit into vehicles.

    1. These aren’t performance engines out of Bowling Green that are hand assembled. These are mass market, garden variety V8’s for the GMT’s and K2’s.

  2. At least GM didn’t move the engines to Mexico. They used to produce GM crew cabs in Oshawa Ontario until someone decided they should move to Mexico. Good luck Tonawanda. Hope you are still around in 75 years!
