The General Motors Foundation has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to American charities since its birth in 1976, without signs of slowing down. Most recently, The GM Foundation will donate $100,000 to the Central Park Conservancy program, “Keeping It Green”.
Keeping It Green is a service learning program meant to introduce kids as young as pre-kindergarten, through to grade 12 to the importance of preserving Central Park. The program enrolls more than 500 students annually, teaching students age appropriate information on horticulture and the environment.
The GM Foundation’s donation makes it possible for the program to add weekend classes for families as well as an online downloadable resource, aimed to bring the program beyond Central Park and into the classroom.
20 GM Cares volunteers from GM’s New York City offices completed a variety of tasks in the park to mark the occasion, such as spreading mulch near the Great Lawn and removing invasive plant species.
