General Motors To Unveil New Chevrolet And GMC SUV Lineup September 12

Update: Here’s the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and here is the 2015 GMC Yukon family.

Fact: General Motors is responsible for three of every four vehicles sold in the full-size SUV segment. This year alone, Chevrolet and GMC have sold over a combined 180,000 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Denali sport utility vehicles. To put that in perspective, the revenue generated from sales of GM’s full size SUVs alone is equal to that of a Fortune 400 company.

And come September 12th, GM will unveil its 2015 full-size SUV lineup — including the 2015 Tahoe, 2015 Suburban, and 2015 Yukon, with the K2XX-based vehicles being on display at the Texas State Fair in Dallas later on in September. Dallas is not only a leading market for the SUV segment, it is also in close proximity to GM’s Arlington plant — the exclusive manufacturing location of GM’s full size SUV models.

  1. Make the money while it last as this segment is going to fundamentally change in the next 10 years.

    GM held a large slice of this segment already but as people drop out as they have it will increase their share.

    I just hope gas does not spike when they come out. GM has had bad timing with new trucks and suv in correlation with gas price spikes at into. But what can you do?

  2. The GMT900s are some of the beautiful SUVs ever made. When they came out with the GMT900 design they were a huge leap forward from their predecessors, and that’s made me own four of them to date.

    I for one cannot wait to see what GM has in store for us. I do not expect a revolutionary new design but I do expect a significant leap forward, and I am praying that they have done more to differentiate the differently branded interiors.

    Very excited about tomorrow’s unveil.

  3. I can’t wait! Knock it out of the park GM! Sign me up, I’m ready. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll show a bit more love to third row passengers with improved seating comfort. These vehicles are too beautiful to use as utility trucks. they deserve a top shelf rear seat configuration. My kids are all getting bigger!

  4. I’m sure the GM full size suvs will be around a lot longer then 10 years

    1. They will be around but much less in numbers and much higher in price with heavier weight capacities to avoid CAFE Regs.

      Already today the smaller CUV market has taken a great chunk of this segment. Look around and even the competition has started to cut back in this segment.

      I kike these vehicles but time is running out on the half ton Tahoe and in ten years outside factors will make it difficult to sell in great numbers.

      Why do you think GM is making so many small SUV and CUV’s. This is what they will have to depend on.

      Even the Ford Explorer is now based on a unibody FWD.

      I do not like it but that is the trend and we are not in any place to change it.

      Look for the Trail Blazer to come here and make a play for the 1/2 ton segment over the next 10 years.

      I am not making this up as this is what those inside GM have been saying.

  5. Too bad they do not do a full count of full size trucks. Ford always brags about pickup sales.

    If they included suv’s GM would win.

  7. Here’s the deal with bug trucks in America, and ultimately elsewhere, that guarantees their survival and growth.

    1. Cars will become more and more automated, to the point that they will drive themselves. When they do, and people can stop paying attention, people will want larger vehicles not smaller. They will want to sit and read, chat, watch TV, work, eat, etc. That needs a bigger, not smaller vehicle
    2. As new technologies (improved gas or diesel engines, 8+ gear transmissions, cylinder deactivation, turbos, etc) improve gas mileage for large SUVs, the penalty for owning and driving one will decrease. Remember, the cost of these vehiles at the hi end dwarfs any money spent on gas over the life time of the vehicle, as gas mileage improves to the 20+MPG range.
    3. People need room. My family is a classic example. We have two parents and two kids. They both play comp soccer and year round baseball. We carry other parents and their kids to and from tournaments etc on a regular basis, meaning we need 7 or 8 seats as well as room for all those kids “stuff”. We currently own an Infinity QX56. Its a huge SUV, but guess what – it aint big enough. The room behind the 3rd row is just too small when there are 8 people in the car. We will be “upgrading” to a Suburban or similar in the 2015 model in the next 6 months or so. And we are far from the only family like this. Yes, a minivan would almost work, but again lacks the room for “stuff” when all 8 seats are being used.

    1. I 2nd that need. To add to it, we live just outside of Denver in the front range mountains. The ability to have a vehicle that can carry all the gear, kids, adults, and still plow through snow covered highways and rural streets is a big need for my family. Mini van (which we do have an AWD sienna) works for a good portion of the year but it’s outright dangerous in the winter time on heavy snow days. There will continue to be a need for these truck based SUV’s. Improving the efficiency is long over due and I’m excited about this latest offering. Hope they look more like their truck brothers because the last gen tahoe/yukon/suburban (and expedition) are all pretty hideous.

  8. Two must haves for this new model to succeed:
    1. A third row seat that folds flat without having to remove it
    2. An 8 speed transmission for improved gas mileage.

  9. GM needs to have a 9 or even 10 speed transmission in these trucks. A flat folding 3rd row seat (My mom owns an Envoy XL and I love how the 2nd and 3rd rows fold! They are very easy and are pretty much flat), 2 engines for this (One for economy and one for towing) possibly a 2.8L Turbo High Feature I5 with VVT, SIDI, AFM and DOHC. 257HP and 270lbs-ft. Torque (17 city / 29 hwy / 23 combined) or a 5.3L Supercharged Ecotec3 V8 with VVT and AFM. 420HP and 439lbs-ft. Torque (14 city / 22 hwy / 19 combined)

  10. There will always be a need for a full size, trailer towing SUV.

    There may be alternatives to some of the customers but to really take a family and tow a large trailer a Suburban is the way to go.

  12. GM must add the EREV system to all the large SUVs and trucks, so they can drive on electricity at low speeds (where they spend most gasoline). This will improve their MPG rating and improve the average MPG for GM. I am waiting for a EREV or BEV CUV, based on the Equinox or the Orlando, because most families need a vehicle at that size range. Most SUVs are too expensive, and hatchbacks, such as the Chevy Volt, are not big enough.

  15. actually you don’t have to add suv’s. If you added Chevy an GMC pickup sales together they beat Ford every year
