Feature Spotlight: The “Ambient Air Vent” Of The 2015 Tahoe, Suburban And Yukon

Those scrutinizing the interior photos of the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2015 Suburban, and 2015 GMC Yukon, may have noticed what looks to be a massive air vent protruding from the SUV’s outboard passenger-side ventilation unit. We wanted to let you know that this element is completely functional.

In the new Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon, the Ambient Air Vent — as it’s called — treats occupants to increased cabin airflow, while integrating the HVAC unit more with the dashboard in a more seamless fashion. In person, it gives the cabin of the new 2015 GM K2XX SUVs a pleasant signature styling cue that’s distinctive from other vehicles in the segment. There’s just one thing: the large duct is stationary and isn’t meant to adjust with the main vent.

How will it feel to actually use it? We’ll have to wait until early next year to find out.

  1. Kudos for bringing this info forward.

My experience Engineering is that GM did many smart things that in the design/engineering stage but that never get passed on to sales people or the public.
