Even though Alex Luft lives in Colorado Springs, and even though I just got done driving to Denver and back, neither of us managed to catch a glimpse of any 2015 GMC Canyon (or 2015 Chevy Colorado) pickups testing on those high-altitude roads. I did see a 2014 Cadillac ELR, but no big deal.
If we didn’t know any better, we’d think the 2015 Canyon that MSN Autos photographed to just be a wrapped up 2015 Sierra. But never mind them trying to say that there won’t be a diesel powertrain offering for these new trucks. For we know better.

So then, how was it spied? reason for this blog?
Manoli, I caught that part about the diesel as well. It would be nice if they could get the facts and the story straight before putting these articles out. This new generation continues to just look too big for the segment to me as well. I hope they’re not making a mistake here.
I hope this is correct. Downsized Sierra/Silverado would be perfect. I hope they come out with it soon cause Ford and Dodge are sure selling trucks and no one wants yesterday’s stuff from GM and there is definitely a segment that does not need or want the huge Silverado or Sierra. It is an unfilled niche.
Manoli, Is there any word(rumors) on when they will Debut? Be Released? etc
I think it will be interesting on how GM markets and prices this truck. The Colorado was not much cheaper than a full size truck so I hope they either increase the value of this model or price it a little more lower to make it more attractive.
Or are they going to really push this as the MPG truck since it was really designed with that in mind.
I see changes on how they do things here and it will be interesting to see just what they are.
Title says 2015 GMC Canyon spied, subheadline says its a smaller version of the bigger brother Sierra, but then the article states you guys didn’t see anything…
So misleading! GM unveil this truck already! You have us interested!
if you click the ‘MSN Auto’ hyperlink it will take you to the spied image. Not a great way to reference it, I’ve never been a fan of the way GM Authority cites and references
Thanks andrew! Very weird way of referencing the image. They should have posted the image citing its rights to MSN Auto.
Oh well hope this helps everyone see the pic!
The redesigned GM small pickup is way past due. The current stuff is only 4 or 5 cyl and look like trucks from 8 years ago. While GM has been asleep the last few years Ford has quit offering the Ranger and Dodge has dropped the Dakota. The market has been taken by Toyota/Tacoma and Nissan/Frontier, GM will find it hard getting this market back without matching their V6 towing capabilities and excellent quality. I suggest they make power folding outside mirrors standard (garage space is becoming a premium) and a backup camera integrated into the rearview mirror (a great feature on the Tacoma and Frontier). Other features to consider are heated seats and power sliding rear window, these are either not available in the Tacoma/Frontier or they are only on their “Limited” models.
While looking at the new 2014 Holden Colorado sold in the Australian market, GM have dropped the 2.5 L CDTI version altogether and added a 6 speed manual while increasing the output of the 2.8 CDTI to 500NM (369 Lb/Ft) when mated to the 6 speed Automatic. If GM introduce the Colorado/Canyon with the above noted motor, this would send Toyota and Nissan scrambling to add their own diesels. Ford made a huge mistake by not bringing their new Ranger (Tacoma Sized) to the US. Having seen the Ranger in Ireland along side the VW Amarok, US buyers are being short changed on powerful, efficient and reliable mid size trucks.
