2014 Corvette Stingray Dusts Nissan GT-R Track Edition In Edmunds Comparison

Without question, the Nissan GT-R can out accelerate the 2014 Corvette Stingray. But any dunce can put their foot down and aim a car straight. Around the track, the new ‘Vette is somewhat of a monster, outrunning the GT-R around the 1.6-mile Streets of Willow by nearly a second (1:24.6 to 1:25.2), and an average of 2 mph faster per lap. Oh, and at $116,995, the GT-R was nearly $50,000 more expensive than the Corvette Edmunds tested for this comparison.

Notably, Edmunds did prefer the start-up sequence and information readout in the Nissan over the Chevy…

  1. “The 2014 Nissan GT-R doesn’t lose this one because it’s not $47,020 better than the Corvette. It loses because it’s not better than the Corvette, period. Edmunds”!!! What the Hell Else can be Said!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  4. Now I personally expect the Z06 and the ZR-1 to destroy this GT-R around the track. However, don’t rule out that at least the Z07 to almost equal the GT-R in straight line acceleration, while leaving it in dust at the track.

  5. I’m not sure that the RWDZ06 or ZR-1 will ever be able to beat the AWD GTR in 0-60 or in a straight line, simply due to not being able to put the power to the ground and hook up without precious time ticking away. But, they will leave it in the dust on a track where it counts, and for that reason I am very much looking forward to their arrival!

  6. bronc624, the current ZR-1 eats the 1/4 mile in 11.4 seconds, while the current GT-R does it in 11.2 seconds. The Z06 achieves 11.7 sec for the 1/4 mile. However the GT-R gets 0-150mph in approximately 18.0 seconds at best.

Meanwhile, the Z06 gets 0-150mph in 17.4 seconds, with the ZR-1 achieving it in 15.9 seconds at best. Now up to the 1/4 mile, the GT-R is ahead, but the trap speed of the ZR-1 is higher, which means the GT-R straight line dominance will be short-live.

Therefore, all I am trying to say, is that with improvements to both Z07 and ZR-1 for the future, even a higher hp GT-R is still in for an ass-kicking by both cars. Furthermore, I am sure that the ZR-1 will outperformed even the future GT-R with their expected improvements.

After all, I am sure Chevy’s engineers have the Ferrari 458, Porsche 911 turbo, and Mclaren MPC cars in full view, to put under some serious pressure when it comes to bang for buck.

  7. Valiance, I am crossing my fingers and looking forward to the ass-kicking

    1. there’s no need to cross your fingers. Road and Track did a comparo with the ZL1 camaro (yes I said Camaro) against the GTR and except for straight line the Camaro was considered better overall; especially in the driving dynamics!

If a ZL1 and a Z51 C6 can humble a GTR in everything except a straight line, i’m sure the meaner varients of the C7 will easily do the same, and maybe even draw even if not out right beat it in the 1/4 as well…maybe.
