Vermont Tuning Pushes Cadillac ATS 2.0T To 309 HP, 326 LB-FT At The Wheels

A factory Cadillac ATS 2.0T is a load of fun from the factory, but sometimes fun just isn’t enough. Sometimes owners want a little more gusto than what they can find from stock. And Vermont Tuning, LLC can prescribe just that with their Stage 2 tuning package for the ATS turbo.
The package involves just what’s under the hood, and features flex fuel sensor, a larger billet compressor wheel and turbine wheel into the stock turbo, a 3-inch intake, 3-inch DP and custom 2.5-inch dual exhaust. Add the proper fuel — in this case, E47, and the results put the ‘roided ATS at roughly 309 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, judging by the dyno chart. That’s a 92 horsepower and 116 lb-ft improvement over what the stock unit laid on the dyno. And with the all-wheel-drive model, it will run 12.76 seconds in the quarter mile, with a trap speed of 108 miles per hour. That’s a two second improvement over a stock ATS4. And judging by the video below, they certainly fixed the muted exhaust that takes some personality away from the the factory model.
No thanks, reminds me of the Allstate weed wacker motorcycle commercial.

I don’t mean to rock the boat, but something seems very off regarding the ATS today.
According to the above article, the Stock 2.0T ATS pumps out 217 HP (309-92=217). Additionally, on the earlier report from Motor Trend, the “tuned” 3.6 V6 ATS manages 260 HP. I have to think errors galore here.
The stock 2.0T ATS manages 272 HP and the stock 3.6 V6 manages 321 HP.
Am I missing something? Are these numbers coming from somewhere I’m not aware, or measured in a way I’m not used to?
At the wheels bro, read the title
Manufacturers advertise hp numbers that are measured at the flywheel, tuners measure hp numbers at the drive wheels which are 15 – 20 % lower due to driveline losses. Automatics usually steal more hp than manuals. Doesn’t sound as impressive but its the hp the car is actually putting to the ground.
My HHR SS went from 235 HP in first and second gear and 250 HP in 3rd and 4th gear to 290 HP in all gears and 315 FT LBS with only a change to a 3 bar Maps and a flash. Nothing else needed changed.
Note the same tune will do 340 FT LBS in the Solstice Manual.
Most people do not understand how easy it is to upgrade many turbo engines. there is room on the LNF up to 400 HP on stock parts and the transaxle is the only limiting factor in my car.
GM has tunes coming for some of their 2.0 Turbo Engines and they will not void the warranty like my GM tune.
HP & torque increase is great, the exhaust sounds good, but the tailpipes hanging down low look like crap.
doesn’t sound bad, but it doesn’t sound good either
I never got why a 4 cylinder had dual exhaust? For performance wouldn’t it just be better to have a single pipe since exhaust is only coming from 1 row of cylinders?
Generally a single outlet is better than any cross flow. Often most cross flow duel outlet mufflers can cost 7-10 HP.
In this case it is two muffflers with a split pipe so it should not be as bad.
They could make the power and keep this more quiet. Noise and flow is not always equal.
I am makeing nearly this with my 2.0 and I still have the stock muffler and stock turbo.
I love my engine but it is difficult to make any 4 cylinder sound all that great. Some V6 are ok like my Fiero and most V8 engines are fine.
I am just not into the fart can sound.
Way, way too loud. Too much like one of those trash can “thingies” on a Honda Civic. This is a Cadillac guys, not a Honda. I want a more masculine sound for my ATS 3.6 – and – that certainly doesn’t qualify.
My 85 Cavalier sounded like that after the exhaust rotted and the manifold cracked… Nice job guys. To be fair, only so much can be done with half of an engine.
What I wouldn’t give for a tuning company to plant a Small Block in the engine bay of an ATS along with the appropriate suspension, reinforcement and brake upgrades. An LS7 in the body of an ATS would be a theoretical masterpiece.
Feeling sick to my stomach after watching a zoomed in video of an obese man farting into the camera after having eaten 20 soft tacos with Fire sauce from Taco Bell.
Seriously, what is the attraction to that ridiculous noise? I’ve never been around anyone who, when sitting behind a Civic with a big fart tube sticking out of the back, said to me, “Wow that really sounds amazing.” The only people who think this garbage sounds good are the people who wasted the money to buy the part that made their car sound that way. Had the turbo sound been enhanced in some way, I’d probably find it to be pretty cool. But that fart noise, with equally ugly pipes sticking 10ft out of the back, completely ruins the car. This isn’t even subjective. It’s actually scientifically proven and listed in the big book of, “1 way to ruin a car.” This is actually so bad, I now feel embarrassed for owning a car that people would actually do this stuff to. I didn’t buy a civic or hyundai because I specifically didn’t want to be affiliated with that crowd. Now I have to go and sell my ATS. What automobiles are safe anymore? Have they started putting fart mufflers on supercharged V8’s yet?
My 2013 with a full Borla exhaust sounds deep and throaty so it can be done with a 4 banger. Correct choice of mufflers and resonators that are straight through so not to hurt performance.
