This 2014 Silverado Spot Is About A Man, His Truck, A Broken Fence, And A Lost Calf: Ad Break

The all-new 2014 Silverado cradles GM’s new 5.3 liter L83 V8 EcoTec3 engine — the most fuel-efficient eight-cylinder powerplant in a pickup truck — thereby empowering a man with a broken fence to search in the rain for a lost calf for as long as it takes. This commercial, entitled Broken Fence – A Man and His Truck, conveys just that nearly quintessentially:
The ad’s touching narration goes something like this:
“A man. A man and his truck, and a broken fence. And a lost calf. And the heart to search for as long as it takes. And the truck that lets him search for as long as it takes. The all-new Chevy Silverado: the most fuel efficient V8 in a pickup. Strong, for all the roads ahead.”
The GM Authority Take
We’re beginning to really grow fond of Chevy’s launch campaign for the K2XX-based Silverado, as well as the integration of Chevy’s recently-adopted Find New Roads global tagline into the various ads, including this one.
Here’s to hoping that truck and car shoppers share our sentiment.
I do like how they are able to infuse words like “strong” for the roads ahead into the find new roads campaign, it all ties together well. I think at first we were all scratching our heads regarding the find new roads motto. They are doing a good job tying it all together and providing good support language.
The best part about this commercial is that they help out the farmer. This will win farmers over big because of the fact that GM helps portray to the world the dedication that farmers have to there job of caring for there animals that they raise!!! Thanks GM for not only making an awesome truck but helping out the American Farmer show the country that we care about our animals!
Caring for the animals they raise? I find this commercial quite funny because it’s making the farmer seem as if he has a pet calf in which he loves dearly as a companion, when in fact that very calf will be slaughtered for food and the farmer will receive a substantial amount of money for it. I guess the only love he has for that calf is the fact that he will get paid for it in order to support his family. I have abdolutely no problem with this whatsoever, I just found the commercial amusing.
At first when the “Find New Roads” ad was revealed that was their new slogan, I wasn’t to confident in it compared to “Chevy Runs Deep”. But after seeing it in action and the adaptation for the new Silverado, I really has grown on me.
I just wish they would do more to stick it to the competition, explain why the GM trucks are so much better then the rest! I wish they would talk more about the fact that GM sells more 1/2 ton trucks then anyone else! This is the largest market to go after and they lead in that segment!
Very emotional commercial for me.
But then it makes me wonder what happens to the calf in a few years.
McDonald’s.
Yea it’s called dinner have ever heard of it? I’m always amazed at how people put animals higher on the I care shelve then they deserve to be! Animals we’re put on this earth two do work and eat!
Clearly the man in the commercial cared enough to risk inclement weather, and whatever situation that called out the emergency crew, to find the lost calf.
You think there going to write a commercial about a guy that doesn’t go after the calf! It would offend to many!
But even so, that calf became dinner at some point!
Fun times!
So why didn’t they make a commercial showing a man driving his cows to an abattoir?
It would offend people but we all know what’s going to happen to that calf one day
You watch a truck commercial and you take away from it the feelings of a lost cow!
Maybe this will help SILVERADO sales in India. Unless it has leather seats.
That’s funny! I love leather seats less cows in the world
Wonder how that farmers gets Holstien calves from black Angus cows???
Those were longhorns
The commercial does show that farmers care about their livestock while else would I ever get up in the middle of a blizzard drive two miles in a tractor to check on cows that could possibly be in labor. Why else would it absolutely break my heart to see a cow stand next to her dead baby calf for two days after it was born dead. The only mistake i see in the commercial is in the pasture the cows were longhorn and the lost calf was a Holstein. There is no way that calf came out of one of those cows. That’s the farmer point of view
It’s amazing that you watch a commercial about a truck and what you take away from it is the well being of some live stock!
We’re supposed to be paying attention to the truck!
This commercial is just trying to copy the Dodge Ram commercial that was played during the Superbowl and it wasn’t done very well. A Holstein calf! Could they not afford a beef calf! But the truck did look good
Again who cares about a calf that will soon be lunch or dinner or breakfast or midrats!
The truck! Did you like it, do you think you could use that truck for your personal use or for your business?
Do it look like the driver is comfortable while driving, I could go on but the point is these commercials should make people talk about the truck not the other crap in the commercial!
Not a farmer.
Drive a truck.
First time to see the commercial. I am very happy the calf was saved. I care about a lost calf. Very touching.
My son owns a Chevy truck.
Fantastic a commercial with no naked half drunk people finally!
You rock Chevy……
I’m glad the calf was saved too cuz it’s hitting my plate soon
I had to laugh a commercial where a rancher searches all over western mountain ranch country to find a missing Holstein, the only thing I can figure is the fence got broken in Wisconsin and the poor little calf made it all the way to Colorado before being rescued.
It makes me think the brand manager doesn’t get ranching. A Holstein calf with long horn mommas? Real ranchers know that you don’t get it. Makes the brand seem disconnected. That’s as bad as Chick Fila. Milk cows on an anti beef campaign?
The message is not the dumb ass cow calf what ever! It doesn’t matter what your searching for in the middle of the night!
It could be a dog or your kid!
The point is he’s using the truck to find it!
Ding ding ding!
The truck not the animal!
stupidest advert ever…. small points that these are: 1. not a rancher in the world is going to wear a hat like that. it looks like something out of a LL Bean catalog. 2. he’s driving down a county road looking for the calf; and apparently goes a long way from the downed fence. REALITY – the calf would have been glued to the other side of the fence with mama on the other, tryin’ to figure out how to get back through. IF the calf had wandered off, mama would have been walking the fence. REALITY – the fence does not have to be broken for a calf to decide it wants to crawl through and go for a stroll on its own. REALITY – the rancher wouldn’t be out in the middle of the frickin’ rain mending the broken fence. That’s what you do after the storm hits. “Manage your cattle in good weather; leave them alone in bad.” It’s nice that folks might be swayed by the advert, and purchase a chevy truck, but the fact is this ad is SO far from reality it’s laughable. -grew up cowboying, farming, and been doing it for decades….
