Cadillac Elmiraj Concept Very “Doable” According To Reports

We already know that the Cadillac Elmiraj concept grand coupe is a predecessor to the brand’s Omega-platform rear wheel drive flagship we expect to see in the next two or three years. Though it’s always nice to hear reinforcing words from the other side, as Cadillac senior Vice President Bob Ferguson says in an Automotive News report that the concept is “very doable,” and that “our dealers really want a vehicle like this.”

The 500 horsepower Elmiraj concept builds on what we first saw with the elegant Cadillac Ciel concept two years ago, drawing its power from a twin-turbocharged V8 that’s said to have a similar boost setup as the LF3 V6 found in the 2014 Cadillac CTS VSport. Despite this plausible new engine, the most talked about feature of the Elmiraj is its new emblem, which could be the official new logo for the brand by 2015.

  1. Well Captain Obvious has entered the room.

While this is very much a show car the platform under it is production based and the body is of producible sheet metal. Just add a production based interior, door handles and other details and it could be done.

I expect the Sedan to be shown in the next year and it will take this concept closer to production with the production interior, smaller wheels and a production based engine.

The only real questions here are when and where will the third show car drop. With GM starting and stopping programs and much of the info dark it is hard to judge where they are at with some programs. I expect the third show car next year and production in the year following.

Based on what they are showing I think a year and a half to two years to production may be in order.

    1. Hey Scott, I can get down with what you saying except for two points…Smaller Wheels and Production Based Engine. 1: If the Production car is Close to resembling the Elmiraj, I think smaller wheels will look…In Lack of a Better Term…..Stupid on the Car, GM has some of the Best if not the Top Engineers in the Auto Biz and if they can’t Engineer High Performance 22’s (And Believed it to be the 1st to Offer 22’s on a Production Car like the Pick Ups/SUV’s) then they need to All be Fired, but so far, I’m Very Impressed with how the Engineers and Designers have mesh together as a Real Unit. 2: As for the Production Based Engine, Bro, you and I both know they already got a V8TT and a Blown V8 based off the New Family of V8s, the question now becomes….Which One will actually make it to Production, I would think they would reserve the V8TT for the V Series.

One other thing, and Not to be a GM Apologist, but yea “With GM starting and stopping programs and much of the info dark it is hard to judge where they are at with some programs”, from what I’m reading though, GM is still cleaning House from the Old GM to make it Way More Efficient and Relevant, which is what we All want, yea, we be in the Dark, but what we Don’t know is the same as the Competition knows…..Nothing…..as u can see, we got them Reeling on there Heels as it should be!! 🙂 🙂 Love what you Bring to the Table cause you make others Think with your Well thought out Points………Thanks.

      1. Well here is the issue. Large tires and wheel look great on show cars but in the real world there are issues that even the best engineers can not deal with.

One is weigh and this is a big issue for handling even with the magnetic suspension. Note the ATS was lowered to smaller wheel packages to cut weight. Note the latest C7 has smaller tires. They are getting better handling with less tire but GM is looking to keep weight down and wheels are one major area.

The reality is they could easily knock off 2 inches and it would not hurt the styling.

Once tires and wheels get so big they do not add to performance and often begin to hurt it. Also you have the real world factor of the guy in Cleveland or Chicago what has to dodge pot holes in the spring that would destroy the wheel and tire in one swift hit.

This car is not a post for Dubs magazine and has to live as a daily driver. Fenders can be adjusted and fitted to make the proper size wheels look fine.

The TT will be a Cadillac model and if they keep the Supercharged one it may show in the Vette. No one has said there is going to be a SC LT. I think they are working hard to make a TT a Cadillac trait. With this who is to say that the V sport gets one and V series gets more boost. There is just too little info to do more than speculate.

As for the dark mode I know well why they are doing it. GM has leaked like the Titanic for years with advanced info released on their part and much stolen by employees and sold. My observation is that because of this it is hard to judge where they are at in programs till they are months from release. In this case it is hard to say is this car 1 year out or is it 2 or 3? I know the car is well along but they have started and stopped programs for other products and this adds unknown delays.

As for the internal revamp it will go on for a good while. Lutz put in a new culture there and those he left behind are continuing it. But yet there are still some old School people that for example wanted Cheaper door handles on the LTS. Word was they won but I can see it being over turned in the new GM.

  3. For some clarification, does anyone know if the omega flagship (7 series/S-class fighter) still in development or has it been scrapped? I’ve heard both in the last few months.

    1. The Omega flagship sedan wasn’t cancelled. I *think* what you might be wondering is about the also rumored halo sports car (think R8) was not necessarily canned but sent back to the drawing board. I can’t recall which exec said it, but they said it was too boring to move forward with how it sat currently.

  4. There has been confusion here on this topic.

This car on the Omega is the S series fighter and it was not the Flagship project as many considered it. The Flagship was a even higher model that would have reached into the Bentley price range.

This car is a go and I believe it is closer than many think. From some of the comments on parts for this car it leads me to believe it is pretty well along and this car just reinforces that.

I believe the Flagship status will be on this car for now and if and when GM breaks through with this model they may look to higher ground with a much more expensive ands advanced model. Right now I have to believe they are sweating the details on this one as it has to be spot on right out of the box. This is the one that will have a rep that will overshadow the entire line. A mistake here hurts all the models not just it.

    1. If you look at the grill and emblem they are the same shape so it is all Cadillac.

  6. Have you guys at GMA heard AAAAAAANYTHING, anything AT ALL about this new tt 4.5? I’m super curious what boost levels are being run to get the 500 mark as well as what the packaging looks like under the hood. I’m also curious what boost levels the 4.5 can handle and what those levels bring the numbers to at the crank. Damn…when it comes to this 4.5 all i have is questions.
