All-New Chevrolet Colorado Rumored To Debut At 2013 L.A. Auto Show

The all-new Chevrolet Colorado is expected to debut by the end of next year, and Automotive News is indicating that the freshly new mid-sized truck will bow at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It would be only fitting to assume the all-new GMC Canyon would debut at the same time if that’s the case.
Based on our own judgement, we think it’s a bit too early for L.A. to be the show that will debut these new trucks. Mostly because of the hype surrounding both GM’s upcoming HD trucks and full-size SUV models, which are set to launch a lot sooner than the end of 2014. Chicago, on the other hand…
Can’t come soon enough!
Screw that Tacoma crap
Give us a 6 cylinder diesel. Keep the automatic gear shift in the steering column (like on the Silverado). z71 with good ground clearance. And give us a snow plow preparation package in the crew cab. We can use a small truck to plow tight places, but we don’t want to lose the warranty.
Let the bashing of this not even shown truck began, I wonder why people waste their time coming on a GM site just to bash the new cars and trucks and they do it even before you can touch it or sit in it!
Now on to this truck, not a whole lot of details are out in terms of what engine and running gear I think a 4 banger, 4.3 V6, and a diesel will be plenty of engines to cover what people will need!
What this truck will look like in production form is still up in the air, no matter what it looks like there will be people that like it and dislike it!
I liked the Colorado in current form, the engines were not the best choice! I hope these new engines will make this truck perform better!
Any chance to see a performance truck in this size?
True dat. I like the Current Canyon, but I like this one even better. Nothing wrong with a 4-banger as long as it’s not the typical “Iron Duke” or “Quad Four” POS four cylinder GM likes to “market.” LOVED the old 3800 V-6, except for the exhaust manifold problem that GM knew about and would not fix since they usually failed out of warranty. That Ford 2.5L 4 in the Fusion is an awfully smooth, powerful 4 with a nice torque curve, needs to be something like that.
I will reserve final judgment till I see one and drive one.
Last I saw it was not sharing any engines with the full size and that would leave the 4.3 out if accurate based on the GM comment.
I expect a Eco and Eco turbo along with a diesel. Now the V6 could there be a 3.6 in this?
I also fully expect some kind of ZQ8 like suspension for a sport truck but I just do not see a V8 here as I expect this will be a Fuel mileage truck as that is one thing it will have an advantage over the full size. Less mass is hard to beat in a truck for MPG.
Anything will be an improvement over the last truck. I tried to like it and I tried to make myself buy one but just could not live with the cheap interior and fell of the materials. I had no issues with the 5 cylinder etc. but the quality just turned me off from the time I got in the first new one I saw at Detroit. The man from Chevy said I was not the first to comment this way so I know I was not alone.
I want a small truck in the future and I hope this one will make me happy but only time will tell.
I don’t believe there was anything Wrong with the interior of the current truck, have you been in a ranger or toy crap?
By the way you complain about a trucks interior like it’s supposed to be a Cadillac!
A truck this size doesn’t need a v8 in order to be a performance model a 300 hp v6 would do just fine!
I do not expect a Cadillac but would love at least the level of my old Sonoma or S10 and it is not even to that level.
The drop in sales of the present truck were not all because of price or the hate of small trucks. Just go to most web sites and look at how many wish they would revisit the S10.
The bottom line is the S10 was not perfect but it also was not nearly the price of a full size truck. the Colorado for the price it was should have had a better interior as should most Chevys of this era. Lets face it most pre 2008 Chevys interior sucked when this truck came out.
The Full size mid level trim was better than the Colorado ever was or pretended to be.
The Styling also just never grabbed me wither but that is subjective.
Chicago is well known for truck reveals, so reserve that for either the SUVs or the HDs. The other will be debuted at a private reveal like the Silverado and Sierra were.
I currently own a 07 Sierra crewcab, although i love my Chevys, i think they are both the same truck.Anyway when i bought this truck,i actually wanted a Colorado, but could not get myself to like that five cylinder engine, it should have had a V6 as an option. I believe that was one of reasons for the down fall of Colorado / Canyon trucks, the V8 could not save them because of the poor mpg. So i hope the new Colorado or what ever name it is given, will have a V6 option and the 2.8 4cyl diesel also.
The 5 coming off the Vortec 4.3 was like a supercharged engine. The old V6 just had little power and only 19 MPG.
The 5 I think just felt odd in name for people but as an engine it did all and more than the previous V6 did. The Atlas 6 was too large and got even worse MPG.
It Is a shame they did not get the MPG up and the Turbocharged 5 out. It had a lot of power just poor MPG.
The Colorado rode good and drove fine. The styling was subjective and it just suffered from the lack of refinement that most GM cars of this era had.
The real issue was price. They seldom were cheap and when the November full size truck sales came around it was tough to pass up a full size truck for the same or cheaper price.
My In-laws to a Full size LT2 2WD with tow package and V8 for $22K out the door at $10K off sticker. Around the same time they wanted near that price for a Colorado ZQ8 5 cylinder that I was shopping and they would not come off much on price.
I loved my Sonoma ZQ8 and would buy one today if I could find a new one. The only issue I had was the 4.3 was sluggish and MPG was fair. If it had an engine like a Turbo Eco it would be a lot of fun.
Isnt this the engine offered in prv gen Colorado/Canyon derived from the 4.2L V6 in the Trailblazer: The L52 (also called Vortec 3500), is a straight-5 truck engine. It displaces 3.5 L (3,460 cc or 211 cu in), with a 93 mm (3.7 in) bore and 102 mm (4.0 in) stroke, and shares much with the rest of the Atlas family. Dynoed at the flywheel it produces 220 hp (164 kW) at 5600 rpm and 225 lb·ft (305 N·m) at 2800 rpm, while producing 179.13 hp at 6001 rpm when dynoed at the rear wheels.
The tralblazer is Atlas also:
The Vortec 4200, or Atlas LL8, is a 4.2 L straight-6 in the GM Atlas engine family. It has four valves per cylinder, utilizes dual-overhead cams (DOHC) design, and features Variable Valve Timing on the exhaust cam, a first for GM Inline engines. Introduced in 2002 for the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, and Oldsmobile Bravada, the engine is also in use in the Buick Rainier, Saab 9-7, and the Isuzu Ascender.
It is also the platform upon which the Vortec 2800/2900 I4 and Vortec 3500/3700 I5 engines for the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Isuzu i-Series, and Hummer H3 are based. These engines are simply the 4.2L I6 LL8 minus a cylinder or two.
Throw a diesel in it and I’m sold. And that is coming from a Chevrolet hater.
My colorado has 174k well beat in miles. No mechanical issues at all, or leaks. Broke in correctly, since I bought it new in 04. All that are against it, are just not up to standards. It’s a crew cab 3.5 with the locker. While the 4.3 seems torquier, the mpg added with superb traction just wasn’t there on my s10. I recently acquired a 5speed 3.5(only two yrs. produced for a reason) I spank xrunners, ecoboost and Hemis all day with just intake, electric fans. Now I have speed limiter delete, caltracks, cat delete, 2″ drop in rr and 1″ in front and bilsteins all around. Sick lil truck! And one of the smallest still available,…
