General Motors CEO Dan Akerson really wants everyone to know that there’s going to be a second-generation Chevrolet Volt. And it’s going to come in a couple years. When it does, we can expect at least a 20 percent gain in electric range from the batteries, according to Akerson in a report.
It’s also been reported previously that the next Volt will be significantly more affordable than the current model, which recently had $5,000 lobbed off its MSRP thanks to a decrease in battery costs, though it’s not sure how much.
What’s more, rumor has it that GM has some test mules featuring as much energy density as 400 Wh/kg, which is incredibly superior to the 140 Wh/kg in the current Volt. But nobody is talking as to whether or not something like that will make its way to market.
