2014 Corvette, 2014 CTS Among Early Contenders For North American Car Of The Year

The early 2014 North American Car and Truck of the Year nominees are in, and the list is quite long, and full of vehicles worthy of the NACTOY title. Among them are several GM vehicles, most notably the 2014 Corvette and 2014 Cadillac CTS, along with the 2014 Cadillac ELR, 2014 Chevy Impala, 2014 Chevy Spark EV and 2014 Chevy SS. The truck/SUV nominees from GM are the 2014 Buick Encore, 2014 Chevy Silverado, and 2014 GMC Sierra.

The list includes vehicles that have yet to enter the market, like the 2014 CTS and ELR, but no matter, as the awards won’t be given out until NAIAS 2014 in January, when all models on the list will be available. Check here for the full list.

Considering the Cadillac ATS won the award last year, its sibling that is the 2014 CTS should fare quite well.

  1. Good and bad for GM. Good because their odds to win grow with the large number of new vehicles and their recent vehicles have been great. But the success of one model might take away from the greatness of the rest. CTS and Corvette is a great battle, two remarkable cars but two different purposes. I’m glad GM did push back the new SUVs, this is a busy year for them

  2. Imagine that, my vote would be the Stingray… But most likely will be a vehicle for the average joe who wants a 4 door, in that case the CTS…

  3. The CTS will do well but there are two others that will demand most of the attention.

The Corvette is going to be the major player as in most of the reviews there are no complaints and they have addressed the issues that many have complained about for years.

But the dark horse is the Impala. It has it all in good measure. The car rides, drives and looks great. It also has a great price advantage that many of the others do not have. Price has won this award away from others in the past.

While the others may have more peak performance the Impala hits all the marks for the segment it is in and does what it does to the best of its ability. It just could surprise many people.

My Vote is on the C7 but as long as GM wins even if it is the Spark I will be happy.

  4. If GM doesn’t win COTY this year it was obviously rigged.

  5. Question for you guys in the know…

Regarding size on the new Alpha crossover, I’ve been hearing a X1 and X3 tossed around a lot. Which is it? They’re two very different cars, and I’m inclined to believe it’s more of an X1 competitor that they’re looking at due to the potential growth in the segment.

Or are both on the way? I’ve also heard (disappointing) rumblings of an X1 competitor being FWD. Rumblings only, but rumblings nonetheless.

    1. From what I’ve heard, the alpha crossover would be an X3 competitor. It would slot below the SRX in the Cadillac line up. The role of competitor to the X1 from GM is Buick’s Encore for the time being.

Just a little more info, the next SRX is said to be based on the stretched alpha platform from the 2014 CTS. There are also rumors of a 3 row crossover to slot below the Escalade based on the omega platform from Cadillacs upcoming flagship.

      1. I was under the impression that the Acadia and SRX would both be on the new C1XX platform; a FWD platform.

Is it possible that the SRX will be the full-size 3-row and two new nameplates will move in beneath it?

        1. With the direction cadillac is going and the recent confirmation of a full size flagship sedan, this confirms the development of the rear drive omega platform. This platform would be the perfect match for a 3 row luxury cross over with a performance nature (much like the first gen SRX). As for naming of omega crossover, anything could happen. The first gen SRX had 3 rows, the current gen has 2. From a marketing/naming perspective, SRX would be easier to work with in the bigger vehicle leaving more letters below it for small models.

        2. I have been hearing the SRX is going to be pinned under the stretched alpha platform……..making it a little larger in size to compete with the porshe cayenne……..also a smaller cross over is supposed to come to terms to compete with the X3………I think a larger omega platform crossover isn’t needed….the escalade already has the capabilities of filling the market…..wih competitors such as the Q7, ML, range rover, and X5……..

          1. The Escalade does not compete with the Q7, ML, or X5. Tangentially with the Range Rover.

  6. Both of these cars are deserving of the award and they will both sell very well whether they get the award or not.
