1,000 Horsepower GMC Sierra 2500 HD Tows A Trailer At 142MPH: Video

We’re big fans of the Duramax Diesel-powered Chevy and GMC trucks that we see every day, whether they’re at the mall or the job site. The power figures are great, they’re reliable and comfy, and getting better all the time.

Soon enough, there will be the release of the K2XX-HD trucks, and we can only hope that they’ll be as capable as this soot-belching, 2006 GMC Sierra “racetruck” tuned by Pacific Performance Engineering is that Diesel Power Magazine got to toy with, pulling a trailer in the desert sand at speeds exceeding 140 miles per hour — a new world speed record for towing a trailer. And hats off to the Carson trailer for not ripping apart from wind speed, as well.

The video is from a little while ago, but it doesn’t change the fact that a world record had been set, but a 2500 Sierra HD that sounds like a jet liner taking off. Take a look at the video, and let us know if your Duramax can compete with this one.

  1. Wow – I really enjoyed that!

I wonder if it was running an Alison or a 6L90.

    1. I believe it’s an Allison, as they came standard from the factory. I can’t think of a transmission that could handle that power. It’s obviously modified, probably by Suncoast or another brand from the diesel tuning world.

  2. GM has held this world record before, a Vauxhall pulled a caravan back in the day I think they’ve held the record for years. Well done GM if this is a new record.

  3. I like the power and would like to know how they made it and how reliable it is long term! Is pulling a trailer with this truck going that fact really something people are interested in? I think its really kool but what does it prove? If you want to show how strong this engine is then show it pulling a 25k lbs trailer up a hill or grade!

Nobody that has a truck is ever going to tow a trailer this fast so why bother?

    1. So why bother?

Pretty much every human endeavour can be subject to that question.

e.g.: Why drink the glass of water? You know you’ll only have to urinate.

I suggest you apply this test to every action you’ve taken in life and then you’ll know why someone would want to set the world speed record for towing.

      1. I suggest you not talk anymore cuz it’s just wasting your breath!

Those people before us that set speed records had a end game in mine! That technology was going to be put to use on a race car for the track so it can trickle down to the street cars one day!

Your the one talking out of your ass, the difference between this and what before it decades ago is that this will never be used on a street truck pulling a truck ever!

I have no problem with people pushing the limits but it needs to be worth something afterwards!

Like I said before pulling a huge trailer up a hill with a 1000 hp diesel I can see cuz people pull trailers up hills everyday, pulling a trailer down the highway at 140 doesn’t help anyone!

Colleagues, these words are neither constructive nor are they contributing to a dialogue.

They are the words of a bully.
