The car above (and below) is a 1980 Opel Monza. Based on the Opel Senator, the Monza was in production from February 1978 through June 1986, and among other things, was known for combining elegant styling with a spirited driving experience and clever functionality for drivers and passengers.
According to Opel, similarities between the original Monza coupé and the 2013 Monza Coupe Concept “are visible in design elements such as their large, glazed surfaces and low beltline”.
In addition, the original Monza was the first car to offer a digital dashboard display, and Opel says that the Monza Concept will “continue this innovative theme”, introducing “ground-breaking technologies for future infotainment and connectivity possibilities, showing how next-generation Opel cars will address the needs of a closely connected and sharing society.”
What it all comes down to for us is that we’re anxious to see the rest of the car.

The Opel Monza looks like a Toyota.
I like the Chevy Monza better.
4 wheels a steering wheel and name.
I think the use of the old name here is like using the GN name on a similar Buick model and should be changed. Old names on a car this different misrepresent the new car as It is not the same as the original.
To me this is a disservice of the old car fame and the new cars reality.
1980 Opel Monza looks a lot like 1982 Chevy Cavalier type 10 hatchback.
You could have at least use a photograph of a standard car instead of a badly customised one with 2 tone paint, different wheels and a whole load of extra chrome!!
David — I’d be more than happy to use such an image. Just send me a link to one to:

the HDT monza (failed to reach market)

83/87 opel monza

in the HDT spec Monza the 308ci V8 was fitted it was both lighter and further back then the original engine for better balance
Actually, David, this one is meant to be a replica of the Holden Dealer Team version that Peter Brock built in Australia.
Very underrated car
if it had 4 doors it would be the 78 VB commodore
this is the car holden used to replace the full size kingswood and lower fuel consumption during the fuel crisis.
the result was ford stayed full size and took #1 spot from the much smaller commodore, it took holden a decade to upsize the commodore and take back #1
Jason t, the Omega (Carlton) & Senator / Monza (Royale) are similar but it’s the Commodore (Viceroy) that was the first Holden Commodore with V8’s fitted 😀
this is one of the cars brought into aus by HDT with the intention of selling them, the idea did not get enough backing and failed.
the car pictured was a HDT concept car used for promotion, not being owned by holden it missed out on being crushed.
HDT = Holden Dealer Team
I actually came very close to buying the original anthracite one ten years ago. If only I’d had the spare $30,000 at the time! Came complete with the Group III motor, T5G manual and a few other things, including the VK-style clear front indicator lenses and BROCKI number plates. It was a great looking car, that’s for sure!
I bet these testing the market cars from manufactures ether shown publicly or hidden happens quite frequently. According to car magazines at the time Vauxhall looked into importing Holden Cross8 & Adventura models.
Wonder if the new Monza will have a saloon version (Senator) like the original model
